I help my clients, adults and families, to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they can know themselves complete, whole and safe. I will use a feminist, trauma-informed, psychodynamic approach to support you; to work holistically with the personal, relational, and socio-cultural layers of who you are.
Are you overwhelmed by the mental loads of care-giving, sexism or motherhood? Feeling burnt-out and emotionally drained? Maybe you’re struggling with identity, body image, self-esteem, boundaries, anger, depression, or anxiety. You want to feel and do things differently, yet find yourself stuck in the same patterns. Together we can deepen your understanding of yourself and where your pain comes from. I will work with you to examine what is going on now in light of past experiences, trauma, and social injustice. Then you can break patterns, heal wounds, and learn how to listen & show up for yourself with vulnerability and resilience.

My style is philosophical and eclectic, drawing mainly on psychodynamic and existential approaches.
While suffering is an inherent part of the human experience, conditions of systemic oppression distribute it unevenly. To survive the difficult realities of life, we develop habitual patterns to manage psychological pain, often at the expense of our values and creativity. Psychotherapy can help raise our awareness, transform protective mechanisms, and release difficult emotions.

Modalities such as Brief Solution-Focused, CBT, Narrative, Feminist, First-Stage Trauma, IFS, EFT, the Gottman Method, and Psychodynamic allow me to address a wide range of issues with my clients.
You deserve to be happy...and you don't need to struggle alone. Stress, worry, sadness, restlessness, frustration, anger, loss, or loneliness can all feel overwhelming at times...but care, connection, treatment, healing, and empowerment are all within reach. Within psychotherapy... insight, understanding, self-awareness, tools for coping, better functioning, and new ways of relating or behaving are all part of the process of change that you may be hoping for. Whether it be unresolved issues from the past or present circumstances and challenges, a safe, respectful, accepting, patient, and encouraging therapeutic space can be surprisingly rewarding, and make more of a difference than expected.

Working from an integrative and non-pathologizing approach, I often draw on Psychodynamic , Emotion-Focused, Narrative, and Mindfulness-based practices to explore ways past experiences and relationships have influenced barriers in our ability to feel empowered in our bodies, relationships, and the world around us while actively navigating a path forward.
It takes a lot of courage to face parts of ourselves that have felt alone, silenced, ashamed, or misunderstood. As a trauma-informed, holistic, and relational therapist I aim to foster an affirmative space where all thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be deeply understood with acceptance and kindness by compassionately bearing witness to what has brought you to therapy. Together, we will become curious about ways of tending to and expressing core emotions and (unmet) needs that have felt neglected or hidden by deepening your connection with your inner-most self and others with greater fulfillment.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
