I help clients connect with their present-moment experience through mindfulness -based approaches.
Whether you’re experiencing depressed or anxious thoughts or feelings, difficulties in relationships, the impact of past trauma, feel trapped in addictive living, or looking for help navigating school or work-related stress, I would be honoured to help you on your journey. I will help you encounter the sensations, emotions, thoughts, and long-standing narratives keeping you stuck in repetitive disempowering cycles of behaviour and thought. I can help you cultivate a deeper awareness of your mind-body connection. Tuning inward opens up possibilities for building a healthier sense of self and more meaningful relationships.

I am trained in trauma therapy, including EMDR, as well as CBT and mindfulness -based approaches.
My goal is to help you bring curiosity and compassion to your experiences, including struggles with anxiety, depression, negative thinking patterns, dysfunctional behaviours, and relationship challenges. Using a trauma-informed approach, we will work together to better understand how your struggles stem from the past, while making room for new coping strategies. Trauma leads us to feeling on edge, panicky, numb, self-critical, and defensive in relationships. I am here to help you break free of these cycles and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others, as well as build capacities for inner strength and resilience.

Thank you for visiting my page. We all want to feel a sense of peace and contentment, but it’s not always easy to do. Life takes us in all kinds of directions, some predictable, some unexpected. Some manageable, some overwhelming. You and I, together, can explore the challenges you are encountering, and find ways to cope and become resilient. As an RP (2016) and as a MT (2000), over the past 20 years, I have built trusting, therapeutic relationships. The modalities I use include CBT, mindfulness , narrative therapy, and as appropriate, elements of creative arts therapies to enhance self-expression and feeling grounded.

I utilize an integrative approach, mainly incorporating Emotion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness approaches.
Life is full of ups and downs. We face challenges everyday and frequently feel overwhelmed by our emotions. We have many wounds inside us that need to be healed from the past. Although it seems painful to look at those wounds, they can be healed by exploring our inner world and emotions.

I integrate techniques from many modalities, including narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, existential therapy, and mindfulness , as I also have my own mindfulness practice.
Are you experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, or feelings of low self-esteem? Are you having trouble navigating your way through the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or simply struggling to find meaning in this strange new world? Many of us are knocked backwards by negative events in our lives that seem to unearth past hurts and make navigating our present and future more difficult. These are times when we need support and encouragement from outside of ourselves to help us navigate this inner world and push ourselves forward in our lives.

I incorporate the different methodologies in counselling therapy as they work for the client, including EMDR, Mindfulness using Ego State, IFS, CBT and other approaches.
If you are dealing with a recent trauma or trauma in the past that you believe may be holding you back and are easily triggered by things you feel should not be so hard to deal with, if you are sad or constantly anxious and worried, or if you are feeling that life is pulling you down and you are not sure how to get back on track, maybe trauma, old beliefs and habitual patterns are keeping you from finding enjoyment in your life. These things are challenging to deal with on your own sometimes but by building awareness and working through them with support and building inner resources you can live life with more peace and enjoyment.

I draw from the science and theories of Mindfulness , Compassion-Focused Psychotherapy (ACT, DBT, CFT), and Emotion Focused/Sensorimotor Therapy.
If you are looking for a therapist who is warm, open-minded and engaging you’ve come to the right place. With clarity and compassion, I will support you to set and reach goals, break habitual patterns and find better ways of coping with the pain and stress of life. Most humans experience emotional suffering and have unwelcome thoughts. We get stuck in the past, worry about the future and have relationship challenges. We doubt ourselves and engage in painful self-criticism. When it's safely possible, I will return to in person practice in the Parkdale Highpark neighbourhood.

My practice incorporates different modalities, such as Emotion focused therapy for couples, as well as mindfulness practice, and narrative therapy.
You don't have to face life's difficulties alone. If you are struggling with trauma, shame, depression, anxiety, or low-self esteem, or have concerns about relationships, intimacy and setting healthy boundaries, my compassionate, intuitive and collaborative style will help you to become more aware of, and reconnect to your own strengths, develop greater self-compassion and self-acceptance, as well as connect to your potential and find new ways of approaching challenges. I've been a therapist for over 15 years and I offer both individual and couple therapy in downtown Toronto.

I enjoy using Narrative, Acceptance and Commitment, EMDR, Cognitive and Mindfulness based practices to help you explore and confront difficult emotions.
I work with individuals experiencing feelings of disconnection, anxiety, and self-criticism. Do you ever feel like you can't live up to your own standards or those of others? As though no matter how hard you try you remain stuck or unfulfilled? In a society that promotes speed, wealth, and unrealistic standards (of beauty, relationships, even self-care!) it can be increasingly difficult to find a space in which we feel heard and validated. When life prevents you from seeing the best version of yourself, I will see it for you, bringing your strengths to the forefront of our work together.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
