Registered Psychotherapist; Registered
Marriage
and Family Therapist.
It is my belief that for healing and growth to occur for someone seeking help, acceptance without judgement is crucial, recognizing and acknowledging the woundedness and unmet needs within the client. This perspective encompasses and acknowledges the entire person with whom I am working, including the physical, intellectual, emotional, interpersonal and spiritual well being of the client. No one seeking help is turned away due to the condition from which they are suffering. My goal for each client is to provide a safe, trusting space so that healing and growth can be experienced.

Any of us may become scared or frustrated by events in our lives. Sometimes parts of our lives just don't seem to be working out. We may become unhappy and come to an impasse. It is inevitable that we come face to face with a crisis of illness or loss. Some may have experienced a relationship breakdown or disturbing dreams and memories. Any one of these can make life seem overwhelming. Even when we find the courage to admit what's happening, those closest to us are not equipped to help us. At these times it is often helpful to talk with a therapist

I have been providing psychotherapy for over 30 years, and I am still humbled by, and passionate about the process of therapeutic change. I always work collaboratively with my clients be they parents, children, teens, adults, or athletes, and I strive to continually engage, diagnose, plan, and treat as effectively as I can. For me, working with children, teens, young adults, athletes, and pre-
marital
couples is most satisfying because of the preventive and early interventive nature of the work. I take pride in providing a place and a space where clients can relax, reflect, re-commit, and experience their desired transformations.

Cognitive behavioural (CBT), family,
marital
, and developmental treatment approaches, tempered by over 35 years of experience and tailored to your needs, are utilized in a manner that focuses on your concerns and helps meet your goals.
My patients come to me because they struggle or are distressed. They struggle to find meaningful solutions to problems in their life or the life of their child. Included are stress or trauma, learning and school-related concerns, depression, anxiety, coping, and relationship problems. The distress people experience is often related to the time and effort they have already put in to find solutions that, at least initially, seem out of reach. Also related, is the fact that my patients are usually successful in life. It is uncomfortable to be generally competent and face a situation where that competence has seemingly vanished.

Marriage

Individual psychotherapy.
I believe that successful therapy begins with finding the right therapist for you. To help you accomplish this, during our initial consultation, I establish whether you are comfortable with my approach to therapy, training and experience. I respect your right to ask any questions and find answers that are relevant to developing a strong, professional theraputic relationship. Important aspects that will help you choose the right therapist are that they:
can show you a relevant diploma or license to practice
have completed training which includes theoretical perspectives and supervised practice
listen and respect your feelings
connect well with you

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
