I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy, CBT, Internal
Family Systems
, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness.
In our everyday life we may find ourselves going through difficult situations. In some of these circumstances we are able to directly influence what is happening, and in some we are simply called to face them with courage and resilience. We may also find we are repeating behavioural patterns that lead us to unwanted results. I provide an empathic space to process your experiences and find your way toward the freedom and changes you are seeking.

As a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist, I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,
IFS
("parts" work), and EMDR, tailoring my approach to your unique experience.
Specializing in Pregnancy/Postpartum issues. You are not broken - you are under stress; possibly dealing with grief or trauma, as well as family, relationships, and work. You're feeling overwhelmed - your big emotions or negative thoughts are running the show, and you're looking for ways to feel more centred and in control. Therapy provides a safe, compassionate space where we can tap into our own wisdom and learn how to show up in our lives as the people we want to be. I can help you make sense of how you got here, get clarity on the inner conflicts that are making you feel stuck, and find a clearer vision of your path to wellness.

I'm informed by Internal
Family Systems
Therapy.
Much of my work is in supporting people who want to improve and strengthen their relationships with others, and who are willing and interested to begin with learning more about themselves. Exploring and addressing life's challenges with an approach that is strengths-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, collaborative, and often emotionally-focussed - I understand the importance of trust in the therapeutic work. I'm also currently highly interested in working with people who are exploring their sense of belonging and well-being in the context of their relationship to colonization. As a settler, I recognize this work is ongoing.

This isn’t you. Something in you already knows that or you wouldn’t be here. Who you are is buried underneath the patterns, habits, and ways of being in the world that you’ve had to adapt. It worked, and you survived. It’s a great way of keeping us safe and protected. One that makes sure we continue to move forward. But along the way, a part of us knows that we’ve fallen out of touch with ourselves - the version of us who lives freely and playfully. What if there was a different way? One where we can live life while staying connected with who we are. Transformations are possible - and it starts with our relationship with ourselves.

IFS
is an exploratory, unburdening modality, naturally cultivating self-understanding, enhancing your ability to care for your parts of your personality.
I provide a compassionate, safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment. I work from a client-centred perspective, where we collaboratively work towards understanding your relational dynamics, processing your ingrained patterns and triggers, and ultimately expanding your level of awareness and consciousness by exploring meaning, purpose and joy in life. Modalities that I have found particularly effective are
IFS
(Internal
Family Systems
) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), which go beyond traditional notions of talk therapy, to access and promote your inherent capacity for self-compassion and healing.

Does any of this sound familiar? You survived emotional neglect. You work hard and are independent. Sometimes, your drive has harmed relationships and partnerships. Perhaps your family members struggle with alcohol or addictions. You often feel isolated and "not enough", and could use help from a person who understands these challenges. If you are Neurodivergent, in Recovery; in, or considering gender transition, I have specific education + experience to support you (Rainbow Health Ontario provider). I am a relinquishee, ACE, trans and in a loving marriage. I work, volunteer and learn in Harm Reduction communities.

Based on the Internal
Family Systems
approach, I believe every person has within them what they need to feel whole and well.
At times we all feel anxious and stressed, uncertain or dissatisfied with life. We can find ourselves struggling to cope with certain feelings, behaviours or thoughts that seem to have a life of their own, causing us to feel helpless, frustrated or confused about why we can't just seem to choose a different way of interacting and responding to ourselves and others. They may even begin to negatively impact our close relationships. Whether you are seeking help as an individual or with your partner, I can help you change those patterns, and find the pathway back to harmony, both within yourself and in your relationship.

I draw especially from psychodynamic, narrative, and internal
family systems
therapies.
I am here to support you while you face what feels too big to face alone. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, anxious, angry, or depressed, I can help you to rediscover balance, purpose, and joy. My journey to becoming a therapist happened alongside my transition into parenthood. It highlighted to me that what we need as adults is very similar to what we need as children: tools for emotional processing and expression, self-awareness, communication skills, and the ability to set boundaries and respect others' boundaries. Through gentle and consistent work, we can achieve these goals.

I have a special interest in relationships; understanding how we come to relate with ourselves and one another, and the ways this connects with our unique world-views, beliefs, and life’s meaning. Together we will co-create our therapeutic relationship, valuing authenticity and creativity. And in the therapy room we might explore grief and bereavement, life transitions, queerness, anxiety, depression, and understanding emotions and identity. My style starts with a trauma-informed approach, and I draw on techniques from narrative therapy, internal
family systems
, and mindfulness-based therapy.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counsellors
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
