My approach is empathetic and client-centred and I work from an anti-oppressive framework. Whatever brings you to therapy, and whether it's easy or difficult to talk about, my intentions are to meet you where you are at with sensitivity and care and to co-create a way of exploring your thoughts and feelings, and what they mean to you.

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm Samira & I offer a safe space where you can be heard and understood. Although seeking therapy may be difficult and quite intimidating at first - it’s one of the bravest things you can do - to take that step in order to understand your own story and start the healing process and journey. It definitely takes a lot of courage! Understanding this, I strive to provide a compassionate, safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space for you to feel comfortable to unburden yourself when it comes to the most personal and intimate parts of your life – one where you can explore and better understand yourself.

Recent years have not been kind to our mental health. As we come out of this pandemic, it is natural to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or even inadequate compared to those who seem to be moving forward with ease. As a result, you may be questioning your level of connection in your relationships and home-life, perhaps your ability as a parent. Are you yearning for change but feel unable to find the motivation to initiate a plan of action? Are you wishing to be the source of support that your loved ones need but lack direction for how to fulfill this role as a parent or caregiver?

I often work alongside people who feel that they don’t quite fit in: Teens and young adults who would identify themselves as creatives, and who have a unique set of struggles and strengths. Some are dealing with issues related to identity and self-understanding, and others are doing their best to manage the depth and complexity of their emotional landscape. I see a lot of deep thinkers, over-analyzers, perfectionists, and clients battling self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Anxiety and/or ADHD symptoms can be intertwined with these struggles.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
