I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples from diverse and often marginalized backgrounds at respected organizations including the Canadian Mental Health Association, Family Services Toronto, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and most recently, Breakaway Addiction Services, where I also clinically supervised other therapists.
Choosing the right therapist for yourself can feel daunting. A trusting therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor in successful outcomes. Meeting face-to-face is the best way to tell whether a therapist is the right fit for you. I provide an initial 30-minute consult free-of-charge to help you make an informed choice. My psychodynamic approach is client-centred and strengths-based. This is complemented with a variety of evidence-based techniques to help build positive change in the present, while engaging in your quest for healthier relationships with loved ones, and most importantly, yourself.

My clients are individuals with a history of mental health issues or living with issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, interpersonal conflict. I am delighted to work with clients who are experiencing difficulty in managing relationships and work, family conflict and parent child conflict. I have seen clients discover themselves in therapy sessions and realise their potential and strengths while working on their challenges and weaknesses. I have also worked with romantic partners desperate to reconnect and accomplish the warmth for each other. I have a special inclination towards working with teenagers with identity issues.

I have been working for over 10 years with adults, youth, children and parents. The themes I typically work with include anxiety, depression, family conflict, parenting, life transitions, loss, trauma, immigration, sexual orientation, gender identity, relational, social and learning difficulties. I believe in life experiences and I try to bring mine to therapy - as a parent, an immigrant and a queer woman. I understand that culture, gender and race, amongst other identities, may very well play a role in your life and I will honour and integrate these qualities into our work.

I use various models including emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, and internal- family systems ("parts work"), drawing from theories of attachment, trauma and neurobiology.
Are you feeling stuck, alone, overwhelmed, lost or yearning for more meaning in life? I believe therapy offers a unique opportunity for inner exploration to gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, relationship dynamics, past experiences and cultural contexts that have impacted your current struggles. Through our work together I will support you in developing more balanced perspectives, relating to yourself with more compassion, learning flexible ways of coping, building connection, and empowerment to move towards the life you desire.

I help people reduce conflict, restore integrity, find ease, confidence and joy in their lives, even when it seems impossible. Through this work, you can harness your own innate ability to face and transform the challenges of living, loving, working and parenting. Together we create a compassionate and courageous space where you are heard and understood within the wider context of your family and environment. Using the neuroscience of emotion, this work addresses problems at the root, rather than focusing on behaviours or symptoms.

Does it feel like your emotions, thoughts, or unwanted behaviours are taking over and stopping you from fully experiencing and enjoying life? This can be overwhelming and can negatively impact self-esteem, identity, relationships, family dynamics, happiness, and productivity. If you have a child or loved one going through some of these issues, it can be just as difficult seeing them struggle as you try to support them while experiencing your own distress. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgemental and collaborative environment to help you feel safe and empowered to explore your concerns, realize your strengths and achieve your goals.

Reconnecting with family and loved ones and creating healthy personal and professional relationships are just some of the areas I can help.
Life can feel like A LOT sometimes. Overwhelming emotions, financial issues, medicating with drugs or alcohol, sleepless nights, relationship issues, and loneliness maybe some of your current realities, but it doesn't have to be like that. Addiction issues can stem from trauma, upbringing, or current life stressors and can have serious emotional, physical, financial, and legal ramifications. These issues can be far-reaching and devastating, personally and professionally. Utilizing a person-centric psychodynamic approach, combined with compassion and empathy, I will help you facilitate the life you want to lead.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
