In individual therapy, I aim to support racialized folks, women, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQI2S+ community who want to navigate interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and family dynamics.
In couples therapy, I work with couples who are married, unmarried, or preparing to get married to navigate relationship distress and repair connection, with a special interest in helping folks navigate inter-racial/cultural relationships.

I use an array of psychotherapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic and mindfulness-based, as well as drawing on Somatic approaches (Sensorimotor and Somatic Experiencing).
My belief is that people come to therapy to have an experience that is markedly different from what they encounter in their daily life. My training and experience allow me to have the tools to provide an opportunity for that different experience, whether it is getting relief from anxiety, finding grace and gratitude in the midst of grief, or gaining clarity and calm in a situation of overwhelm and confusion. We work collaboratively and creatively to uncover the root causes of your distress or dissatisfaction, and address them without re-traumatization. Our work together is safe, deep, transformative, and often spontaneously joyous.

Life is ever changing, bringing unanticipated circumstances which may leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, and stressed. In addition to this, childhood trauma and family upbringing can also have long lasting effects on our choices as adults and the way in which we interact in relationships, preventing us from achieving fulfilment and healthy and positive connections with our partners and children. I can help you to develop tools that work for you to strengthen and drastically improve your self confidence, self image and relationship skills. I can help you understand and control feelings of anger, anxiety, depression, PTSD, Trauma, grief and much more.

Some of us are born with really big emotions and they can be difficult to rein in. Being sensitive is a double-edged sword. It comes with an extraordinary capacity to be lively, connected with others, generate insights, and experience life with great intensity. However, without solid regulation skills, we can also suffer tremendously and get lost on our path. This might describe you or one (or more) of your children. It may feel like the relationships in your family are strained or chaotic – in a way that is hard to get out of. You are not alone!

I support clients dealing with anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or isolated; grief, loss, guilt, shame, anger and resentment; impacts of trauma; sense of self (identity, self esteem, belonging, confidence); relationship issues; family separation (adoption, foster care, loss); caregiving (illness, burnout, therapy for therapists) and other issues.
I offer relational psychotherapy, a gentle, client-centred approach that provides space to explore issues creating difficulties for you, work to understand their roots, and support you in making the changes you wish to make. Whether you're struggling with difficult feelings or relationships, a crisis in your life, ongoing stress, or issues from the past, this is a space where you can sift through your feelings and thoughts with connection and support. My style as a therapist is warm, open and accepting. I practice within a trauma-sensitive, anti-oppression, LGBTQ*-affirming framework.

I offer individual and family therapy specializing in family conflict, parenting, separation and divorce, anxiety, depression, self-harm, peer conflict, school difficulties and trauma.
For the past 13 years I have worked with youth and their families who are struggling with a variety of mental health issues or relationship difficulties. Often the clients I support are families who are experiencing conflict and whose members are feeling disconnected or teenagers and young adults who are struggling with intense emotions and are engaging in behaviours that are concerning to themselves or their caregivers. I work well with people who are interested in transforming themselves and their relationships rather than those who are focused on symptom reduction alone. I work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma.

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
