I also draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behaivour Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness to promote empowerment and improved quality of life for individuals of all ages.
I am attuned and compassionate in my approach to therapy. I offer a non-judgmental presence to help you feel relaxed and clear about the obstacles you want to overcome. Painful emotions often provide useful clues into beliefs about ourselves, other people and the world. This understanding paired with new choices will help you to move beyond what no longer serves you. Using empirical techniques adapted to your needs we will work together on practical ways to create lasting change in your life and relationships. My intention is for you to leave sessions feeling inspired to approach life from a new vantage point.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, my focus will be on improving (each of) your ability to connect with your emotional experience so that your emotions can become the guide that they were intended to be- to provide a way forward.
Prior to working in Private Practice, I worked for a decade in the field of children’s mental health as a family therapist. I helped parents and families better manage their difficult situations. More recently, I have been working with individuals and couples as I expand my skillset using the evidence based model Emotionally Focused Therapy.

In my work with clients I draw from a number of evidence-based modalities, including EFT, EMDR, Mindfulness, Narrative, and CBT.
Engaging in therapy, whether for the first time or with a new therapist, can be intensively vulnerable. When working with me, I approach each session with genuine curiosity and openness to help create a felt sense of safety for clients to explore their feelings and concerns. As a Registered Social Worker who specializes in working with young people, adults, and families, I have experience working with clients and families in various contexts, including as a child and family therapist, school social worker, and individual therapist.

I specialize in Couples Therapy, integrating Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) and the Gottman Method with over 9 years of experience.
Feeling stuck, unsure how to express what’s in your heart? Maybe you're avoiding conflict, feeling distant from your partner, or hurt by something they did. I understand – many couples go through this, feeling alone and uncertain. I’ve personally been on that rollercoaster, moving to a new country with my partner. The initial excitement turned into loneliness, homesickness, and communication breakdowns, nearly bringing our relationship to the edge. As a South Asian therapist, I offer a culturally sensitive space to help you balance your cultural heritage with the realities of a new environment & building a fulfilling life together

I am trained in somatic- and attachment-focused EMDR and also EFT.
Art experience of any kind is not required. Exploring colour and imagery helps us connect to aspects of our inner world we might not have access to through language alone. Working with both hands also strengthens our corpus callosum. Ripping paper, scribbling, and collage are art invitations that may support emotional expression or foster personal growth.

I use an integrative approach that combines mostly body-oriented therapies such as sensorimotor therapy with psychodynamic and emotionally focused therapy to improve mind-body integration, processing and self-awareness.
Different life circumstances, such as grief, shame, anxiety, or difficulties with communication, can drive us to seek help and support in therapy. Perhaps it is our desire to understand ourselves better, care for ourselves, and to make sense of how our past is affecting our present. Whatever it is that brings you here, your difficult feelings and experiences shine a light on the parts of you that seek understanding, compassion, attention, care and love.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
