My approach to individual and couples work integrates such frameworks as
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, mindfulness and CBT.
35 years experience has taught me much about successful therapy. Being understood, whether as an individual or within a couple is critical; my job is to listen well while bringing you my knowledge about how people work and how change happens. You bring knowledge of your life and together we have a conversation about what might allow change to happen. Sometimes, old stories get in the way and revisiting them is necessary to remove obstacles to change. This can only happen when people feel safe. Creating that nurturing environment is also part of my job. While therapy can be difficult, it is also an exciting and rewarding process.

Emotionally Focused
Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness.
I am a warm and empathetic therapist who will work with you to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and recognize and resolve problems areas with which you struggle. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space in which you can explore your feelings and thoughts and unveil factors that may be holding you back. We would then work together to resolve these challenges and address painful feelings which can affect our well-being . My passion is to help individuals and couples free themselves of emotional distress and lead an authentic and meaningful life utilizing their full potential.

I provide psychotherapeutic support, using an eclectic approach drawing from solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioural and
emotionally focused
modalities, in alignment with a strengths-based, trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework, which takes into consideration individual social and cultural factors impacting people’s lives.
Life is full of overwhelming internal and external challenges that can impact our sense of self, daily lives, goals, relationships, etc. Sometimes we don’t understand what is coming up or how to address it, which is completely normal and quite common because human experiences are complex. The truth is that we all come to a point in our lives when we need some support. Even though what society may tell us may be contradictory, acknowledging this and seeking help is a sign of strength.

Therapy is unique to each individual, and I use a strengths-based and narrative approach to highlight the importance of who you are! I specialize in grief, depression, stress, anxiety, and life transitions while incorporating various modalities of therapy such as evidence-based CBT,
EFT
, and psychodynamic approaches.
The experiences and challenges that we go through in life do not define us, but instead shape us to be the individuals that we are today; These experiences help us to flourish and grow in ways that we could not imagine for ourselves. This is a philosophy that I hold in great regard when it comes to my practice and work with clients. I recognize that therapy can be intimidating to some. However, I am passionate about creating a space where we can come together and work through whatever it is you’re going through, no matter what it may look like.

My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (
EFT
), and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Therapy offers the chance for a meaningful experience and connection, wherein you and I will work together to figure out the concerns that underly your current problems. Whether you find yourself faced with anxiety or you find that you don’t have the energy or motivation to face your daily struggle, I believe that we can work together to overcome. Often there are core issues that lead to many of the difficulties that we find overwhelming. Our goal is to uncover, understand, and begin to change these core issues. In having someone safe to talk to during this process, we can change the problematic patterns we find ourselves in.

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
