For trauma treatment I use EMDR which helps you to eliminate painful memories.
My practice is entitled 'Awareness: The First Step to Healthy Living' because I believe that clients want to explore and become familiar with their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, so that life can feel fulfilling. We all experience confusion in life, questioning how to navigate the difficult stages of change, loss, upheaval, insecurity, and, hoping to feel content and accepting of ourselves. I hope to work with clients who want help in managing their lives, whether they struggle with serious mental health, or would like reflect on what they can do better.

I am passionate about empowering individuals on their unique healing journeys. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can manage anxiety, process trauma, navigate life transitions, and develop adaptable coping strategies. I recognize that trauma affects both the body and the mind, and I believe in taking a holistic approach to understand the root causes of your responses and reactions. I understand that substance use and other formally adaptive coping mechanisms often mask deeper issues, and I am here to work with you to explore and address these underlying issues.

I understand the weight of being highly attuned to others while constantly overthinking. At the same time, you may feel detached, on autopilot, or unsure of what you actually want. Questioning conventional narratives about love, success, or productivity can leave you feeling isolated or defective. Many of these patterns are forms of emotional survival, ways you learned to cope, stay connected, or get through. In our work, we focus on strengthening self acceptance. As shame softens, agency increases, and executive functioning becomes more reachable, not through pressure, but through understanding and compassion.

I work with both couples struggling with connection and communication, and with adult individuals. My ideal client is curious and seeks not a quick, temporary fix, but deeper, lasting change. They may feel anxious, stuck, confused, or carry trauma, relationship struggles, or a sense of emptiness. Whatever the problem is, we work together to either address and heal it if it’s fixable or to build the capacity to accept, tolerate, and respond to it differently. The goal is healing — which means feeling at home within yourself and at peace with those around you.

EMDR Counsellors
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
