I am particularly interested in providing evidence-based treatment for adults dealing with mood and anxiety difficulties, phobias, OCD, trauma, work related trauma, relationship concerns, and other stress and adjustment difficulties. I draw from the science and theories of Mindfulness, Compassion-Focused Psychotherapy (ACT,
DBT
, CFT), and Emotion Focused/Sensorimotor Therapy.
If you are looking for a therapist who is warm, open-minded and engaging you’ve come to the right place. With clarity and compassion, I will support you to set and reach goals, break habitual patterns and find better ways of coping with the pain and stress of life. Most humans experience emotional suffering and have unwelcome thoughts. We get stuck in the past, worry about the future and have relationship challenges. We doubt ourselves and engage in painful self-criticism. When it's safely possible, I will return to in person practice in the Parkdale Highpark neighbourhood.

However, I am very interested in aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that focus on trauma, Solution Focussed approaches (SFBT), as well as approaches aligned with Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (
DBT
).
I am currently a Masters level MA in Counselling Psychology practicum student who is qualified to practice onsite under the clinical supervision of an approved Supervisor. It has always been an interest of mine working with individuals of multiple cultural backgrounds to ensure that any help they receive is done in a way that caters to their cultural limits. I have a high interest in working with individuals who have experienced or are currently experiencing trauma, relationship issues, familial issues, anxiety, depression as well as new life changes.

!!*** Are you always extremely organized? Do you put 110% into your work and set high personal standards? Do you always try to control the situation and do things “perfectly”? Good for you! These traits are often applauded by society, and those around us, however, research shows that “too much of a good thing” can lead to other problems such as chronic depression, anxiety, anorexia nervosa, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

I begin by listening and empathizing with your experience and offering strategies and tools grounded in CBT,
DBT
, and Mindfulness where appropriate.
I understand asking for help for the first time can feel new and scary - my priority is to make you feel comfortable and heard. I work with you to become your best self by helping you to feel unstuck, build resilience and gain personal growth. I provide a warm, open and safe space for us to discover what is bothering you, what gives you meaning, and how you'd see yourself living your best life. Together, we explore the ways you've been thinking and behaving that perhaps aren’t working for you anymore, and come up with new ways that'd empower you to live a more fulfilling life.

Overall, my approach is client-centred and focused on a compassionate exploration of areas of support you believe you need. Emotional pain and discomfort allow access to the narrative that is being told by your body, mind, and soul. While unique to your own experience, it is what connects us as fellow humans. We are here to explore alongside you the roots of the pain and discomfort as you navigate a journey that may feel isolating at times, confusing at times, or even unbearable at times. In our journey together, we offer new ways of looking at your situation while acknowledging your lived experience and where you are in your walk. Together, we will create strategies that will draw upon your strengths in order to work towards your fullest potential.

When your past lives on, you aren’t being fair to your future! You may feel like you are reliving the same old story and stuck in a repetitive pattern of negative thoughts, behaviour, and emotions with no way out. As a therapist, I walk with you to revisit these old stories and guide you to change this pattern. We will have an open conversation where you bring the knowledge of your life and I bring the knowledge of how a change can happen. My experience as a therapist has taught me that people need to be understood in an open, nonjudgmental, supportive and nurturing environment. Part of my job is to provide this environment.

I am a trained individual, couples, and family psychotherapist with experience delivering evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and
Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy, and I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my practice.
It takes courage to be vulnerable and it can be uncomfortable to discuss your difficulties with a therapist. Whether you are dealing with overwhelming emotions, a new experience, or seeking meaningful change, I would be happy to help. As a psychotherapist, my goal is to create a warm and supportive atmosphere so that we can explore new insights in an open and non-judgmental space. Regardless of your reasons for coming to therapy, it is important for me that we work together to determine your goals and priorities. I offer evidence-based therapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
