Thinking about starting or resuming therapy can be difficult, I commend you on taking the step towards support. I believe each individual brings their own experiences and perspectives to therapy. Through collaboration, we can better understand how the cycles and thoughts that may cause you to feel stuck or experience distressed can be shifted to create change and inspire hope. My practice is client centered, and connection focused. I believe through creating a validating and safe space to process difficulties, important skills can be learned that will help create change in your life.

Are you living in a state of fear or anxiety? Reliving past conversations and events? Feeling overwhelmed when making decisions? Second guessing yourself and your judgement? Relying on others to validate choices and decisions and feeling guilty when saying "no"? Denying our own needs and engaging in patterns of people pleasing and rescuing is emotionally and physically exhausting. But, nothing to be ashamed of as it is a often a coping strategy from childhood. We can figure this out!

Congratulations on taking the first (and often most difficult) step towards healing and building resiliency: seeking therapy and reaching out! My job is to support you as we work to understand your own unique patterns (thoughts, emotions, behaviours), and be your co-pilot in the process of creating a happier and healthier life. Together, we will process your life challenges, collaborate to gain coping skills and build perspective to help manage your experiences, and ultimately become the 'best version' of yourself. I am passionate about bringing authenticity to sessions, with lightheartedness while encouraging individual creativity.

Do you ever feel stuck inside your head with no way out and the crippling anxiety intensifies? Sometimes talking to others can seem impossible, which can leave you feeling isolated and alone. Together, we can work towards uncovering the deeper meaning behind your symptoms and customize a treatment plan to help ease and work through your distress. Often, we’re so consumed by our intrusive thoughts that we forget to enjoy what’s happening right in front of us. My own therapeutic journey taught me to become more in tune with myself. I learned to appreciate the little things that we normally take for granted and to slow down.

Therapy, although sometimes challenging, doesn't have to be scary or hard. Some forms of therapy are effective at helping more quickly than others. I have specialized training and skill in these approaches and my focus is on making every session impactful and helpful. My clients leave with something useful in the very first session. Although the length of time needed is different with every client, I will work hard to help get you out of therapy and into the life you want to be living as quickly possible.

Accepting new clients! I'm Samira and I offer a safe space where you can be heard and understood. I understand seeking therapy may be difficult and quite intimidating at first. I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to take that step in order to begin to understand your own story and start the healing process and journey. It definitely takes courage! Understanding this, I strive to provide a compassionate, safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space for you to feel comfortable to unburden yourself when it comes to the most personal and intimate parts of your life – one where you can explore and better understand yourself.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Counsellors

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
