Have you ever tried to explain your feelings, but ended up being misunderstood or brushed aside? Or maybe you’ve sought help in the past but have struggled to connect with someone who saw you as a list of problems rather than as a person. Whether you are a student, have a job, or are still trying to figure out where you are going, it is important to recognize your journey is unique and the challenges you face aren’t always simple.

Angry, sad, confused or deeply lost, being with someone with years of experience in being with folks can matter. Do you just need someone to really hear you deeply and let you know that you are on the right path, that your soul is guiding you? Through getting to know you with words, deep relaxation, dream work, creative art work and body work we will make sense of this together/dynamically. Sometimes, you will just want clear feedback and I will give that too. Practically, as a Registered Nurse and Psychotherapist I bring a health care perspective and soul exploration.

Thank you for being here! I work with adults who may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, OCD, depressive disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, racial trauma, grief and loss, and other relational problems. I also work with those who have experienced childhood trauma. In my work, I consistently and sincerely acknowledge the importance of the transgenerational impact of acculturation on our beliefs, worldviews, and sense of self. I genuinely believe that we are not broken, so we do not need "fixing;" instead, we work to be the self we want to be!

I help adults in their 20s-30s who want to feel happy again but are feeling stuck, lost, numb, or overwhelmed with life. My clients tell me that the pressure to choose the right degree, career, friends, or partner leads them to spiral into depression, anxiety, and other difficult feelings. They feel alone and misunderstood. They want to smile and feel like themself again but don’t know how.

I’m a registered social worker and highly skilled psychotherapist for over 15 years of clinical experience working with children, youth, and adults who are mainly survivors of sexual abuse. Sexual trauma can create long lasting emotional and psychological issues ranging from PTSD, relationship problems, trust issues, feelings of shame and guilt, eating disorders, anxiety issues, depression, addiction, self-harming or suicidal thoughts. It takes a lot of courage for someone to be ready for therapy in hopes for a chance to finally move on and not let the past continue to hold you back anymore.

If trauma, abuse, and mental illness have left you feeling like you’re lost in the darkness, you’re not alone. It’s perfectly natural that the difficult emotions and loneliness you feel have cast a shadow over your life. But though the darkness may feel crushing, there is hope and light. The truth is your painful past does not mean that you are stuck with an unhappy future, and though your mental health might feel like it has taken charge of your life, it does not define you. As we work together, I’ll help you discover that you are much more than your circumstances, that your life matters, and that you have a powerful purpose.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and lost as you navigate the transition to motherhood? You thought becoming a mother would be a joyous occasion but instead, you haven’t felt like yourself for months. You didn’t think it would be this hard and you have so much parent guilt. You don't feel fully bonded to your baby and you can’t shake the feeling that somehow you’re doing it all ‘wrong’. Having these feelings doesn't mean you aren't a great mom. If you’re struggling with adjusting to parenthood, can't get over what happened at your birth, or your body feels stuck in anxiety mode, counselling can help you start to feel like yourself again.

I understand the value of creating a safe space where clients feel supported, encouraged and empowered. I utilize a variety of approaches to best suit my clients. I believe each individual should be approached with a unique therapeutic experience to honour the individuality of the clients’ background, goals and strengths. I support clients with releasing hurts, judgments, and misidentifications that have manifested as limiting patterns to Heal patterns so they can be authentic and the highest version of themselves.

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
