I identify as a cis-gender, racialized Asian woman whose approach embraces a wholistic, reflective, equity-seeking, anti-oppressive/anti-racist decolonized lens. It's been an honour to be welcomed into many diverse communities through 20+ years in education, support and case management with racialized communities, gender diverse individuals, Indigenous peoples, people living with HIV/AIDS, newcomer populations, people who use substances, as well as sexual trauma survivors. The evolution of my practice includes a metaphysical component that acknowledges the interplay of mind/body/spirit

You wonder if there is a therapist out there who understands your complex identity, and what it means to grow up in an Asian immigrant family.
You’re a giver, and you put in 1000% to care for everyone around you. On the surface, everyone seems to love you, and you seem to have it all. But underneath all that, you feel a sense of loneliness. If only they knew...after another day of work, feeling exhausted, with still another 20 items on your to-do list. Weekends, running errands for your parents, supporting your partner, your friends, volunteering for your community...tasks and responsibilities upon tasks and responsibilities. And you wonder to yourself, is this the rest of your life? Among a sea of friends, family, and acquaintances, why do you feel so alone?

I mainly work with immigrants, Asian Canadians, people of colour, and individuals from marginalized groups.
Perhaps you are going through suffering, feeling lost or overwhelmed. Maybe you have long endured unspoken pain that needs to be seen and heard. No matter what brought you here, you are working hard to find an answer, a solution, or help to some problems that you are facing in your life. That's incredible courage and strength you already possess. No matter what's been troubling you, psychotherapy will provide a safe space to explore emotional hardships, support healing and allow growth to unfold.

I am a friendly and approachable second generation Asian -Canadian who works within a person-centred, multi-theory framework.
It can be difficult to reach out for support when we find ourselves adrift in the ocean of our lives. Perhaps you've momentarily let go of your anchor and don't know how to find your way back or maybe you've been floating on your own for as long as you remember. Your circumstances and experiences are unique, but you don't have to be alone on your journey. I strive to use my professional training in tandem with unique insight from my lived experience to create a safe, non-judgmental and collaborative space where you can be free to explore your identity, internal processes and lived experiences.

As a South Asian woman and immigrant, I understand feeling the need to be perfect in order to be accepted.
Do you feel that nothing you do is good enough and for you to be truly happy, you need to be achieving greater and greater success in all aspects of life so that you are loved, respected and accepted by others? Have you found yourself saying the phrase “I will be happy when….” before embarking on yet another project, only to find that when you achieve your goals, you are still unhappy and unfulfilled? If you are ready for this to change, I will be honoured to work with you to bring awareness to and move past self-limiting beliefs and help you develop insight and self-acceptance so you can experience a happy and fulfilling life.

I offer an authentic, compassionate relationship for BIPOC and East Asian individuals, specifically child of immigrants 18 years and up, so that you can feel seen and validated in a society where you may not always feel this way.
As people of colour, we might find ourselves feeling stuck, overwhelmed by emotions such as anxiety, sadness or anger and not knowing why we feel the way we do. Maybe our past experiences are showing up, evoking feelings of helplessness or thoughts that you are alone. Life can be complex, full of cultural dissonance and relationships that are difficult to navigate. I want to share that it does not have to remain this way. I can't guarantee that hard feelings or life's problems will go away (I wish I could!), but you can still learn ways to better understand your emotions, try new ways to cope and experience hope and healing.

My private practice focuses on a specialization in youth/students, trauma, anxiety, depression and south asian mental health.
For teens and adults alike, creating change can feel overwhelming. Through supportive, non-judgmental dialogue you can begin to better cope with the feelings, thoughts and behavior patterns associated with your life's challenges and heal from trauma. All sessions with myself or associates are safe, non judgmental and focused on your individual needs. With two decades of work in mental health services, no one single approach is right for everyone. Support is offered to teens, adults and their families by both myself and/or my associates. We offer some sliding scale options to make therapy more accessible for all.

As a queer South Asian immigrant woman, I understand the experience of occupying and navigating between different identities and the importance of intersectionality.
I believe that all people have the capacity to find healing and wisdom in themselves. I approach therapy through a multicultural, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming lens where you are supported to be the expert in your own life and empowered in the work we do. We will explore together, in a collaborative way, where you feel understood and in charge of the process. I value autonomy in my own life and I want other people to learn to cultivate their autonomy and experience how powerful and intentional they can be.

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
