Valuing emotional safety, compassion, and empathy, I work collaboratively with clients to achieve their goals. Recognizing the importance of the therapeutic relationship, I work alongside clients to identify, understand and work through personal challenges. Such challenges can include, but are not limited to,
anxiety
, depression, grief, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, relationship struggles, life transitions and adjustment. Believing evidence informs practice, I understand that it is the individual who is the expert of their experience.

I support individuals with various issues, including, but not limited to:
anxiety
, depression, anger, isolation and loneliness, relational trauma, post-traumatic stress, relationship challenges, self-esteem and self-worth, and coping with life transitions.
My approach to healing is largely informed by my own experience in individual and group therapy. As a therapist, I show up as my authentic self and believe that creating a safe therapeutic environment is the foundation to building trust and connection. I believe that feeling seen and heard by a person we feel safe with allows us the vulnerability to move towards and process difficult feelings and experiences. My hope is to support you to connect more fully with your thoughts and feelings and explore how your life experiences may be impacting your well-being and preventing you from feeling fully connected to yourself and others.

Do you feel isolated and awkward, even with friends? Do others effortlessly appear to connect in friendship, while you often feel yourself to be an outsider and different? Those closest to you may be unaware of your suffering, believing you to be ‘just fine’. Our relationships are vital for feeling good in our skins, for feeling supported, validated and most of all, safe. When instead they are superficial and stressful, we can suffer
anxiety
and even depression. Unable to be authentically ourselves with others, we fail to forge satisfying connections. Life can seem dull and pointless, the hard parts profoundly lonely.

My practice is fully virtual (video and phone calls) and can meet with anyone residing in Ontario and Quebec. I work with career-minded people who struggle with substance use, mood/
anxiety
concerns or ADHD. I work with people who are in high-pressure or creative fields who feel they can be doing better, but struggle to get there on their own. I strive to create a warm, collaborative space where you can explore concerns and learn tools to cope. I understand everyone is at a different place in their journey, and I’ll meet you where you’re at. I feel fortunate to have worked in many settings that uplift 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC populations.

As a therapist and psychoanalytic candidate, my approach is collaborative, trauma informed and integrative. Important to my approach is the development of a therapeutic relationship that fosters acceptance, trust and compassion; providing space to attend to your concerns and attune to your aspirations. I would like to offer you my appreciation on how important the step you are giving right now is. Finding a psychotherapist can be daunting or disconcerting at first but the impulse that brought you here means you want things to be different, right? Maybe with less
anxiety
, less suffering or less loneliness. Maybe with more space to be who you are and experience more easiness to relate to others. Past traumas, being raised in non-attuned contexts and any form of oppression impose ruptures to the dialog between us and others and the internal parts of ourselves. These cracks generate conflicts, suffering, shame, and a self-alienation.

anxiety
manageable in the moment. Therapy can help you learn ways to manage and cope with stress, worry, low self-confidence, overwhelming thoughts and OCD.

Anxiety
can paralyze us. Strong emotions can turn our lives upside down. One sentence expressed in a moment of anger can lead to many moments of pain. Being human has never been an easy experience. In the context of COVID, war, and financial hardship, being human has become exceedingly difficult for many. In our attempts to move forward, many of us rely on strategies we think ought to work, but in fact make things more complicated for us. In the midst of strong emotions, we try to avoid the situations and people that lead us to these experiences.

I am a registered clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience. Most of my career has been spent working as a psychotherapist in the
Anxiety
Clinic at the Toronto Western Hospital (UHN). My practice is informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Experiential Psychotherapy, and Somatic Psychotherapy orientations. I believe that therapy should involve a combination of acquiring skills that help to manage
anxiety
, mood, etc. as well as experiential work that helps to facilitate more transformational change at a deeper level. I feel that therapy should be a practical, safe, supportive, and collaborative process.

I have 5 years of experience working in community mental health with individuals struggling with trauma,
anxiety
, depression, and addiction.
Do you have a difficult time looking at yourself with compassion and acceptance because the way you react, behave, and feel is wrong? Maybe it’s reacting with anger and defensiveness, or isolation and shutting down. Maybe it’s feeling like you are not smart enough. attractive enough, or simply not enough. Either way, you are left feeling ashamed of who you are. Imagine a life where you did not feel this way. You did not feel controlled by your emotions, you found joy in the ups and downs, and you look at yourself in a positive light. Beginning therapy is nerve-wracking, but I hope you take a moment (and a deep breath) to reach out.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
