I offer deeply compassionate client-centred services for adolescents and adults. I am trained in the evidence-based models of Psychodynamic, ACT, CBT, and Narrative therapy as well as the Creative Arts Therapies (Role theory, Psychodrama, Improv, etc.), and so interweave these modalities to best suit my client’s needs. My therapy approach goes beyond talk therapy, to also be embodied, creatively expressive, and somatically based. In this way emotions, memories, and presenting issues are explored and processed not only with words but with movement, metaphors, play, and body relaxation techniques.

Do you struggle to feel connected to your authentic self or make sense of who you are in the world? I have been there, too. Through my own life experiences, and from the work I've done with my courageous clients, I have an understanding of how psychological pain and distress impact every aspect of our daily lives, relationships and self-concept. While the effects of this distress often hold us back in our lives, it can also push us to get the help we need to better understand ourselves. If you are here, looking for those answers, you have already taken the hardest step.

Do you feel stuck in your anxious feelings? Perhaps you have intrusive thoughts or memories that are really bothering you. Maybe you have coping strategies that used to work in the past but are no longer as effective for you now. Is your anxiety also affecting your ability to be present and to function in the ways that you would like to in your relationships, work, or school life? If this is the case, do these issues then lead you to experiencing feelings of shame, wondering if there is something wrong with you, or questioning if things will ever get better?

I help clients by going deeper into their unique make-up. Not to judge, or pathologize but to understand, accept and create custom strategies to achieve their life goals, whatever they may be, without attempting to change who they are. The strategies developed are inclusive of any challenges clients bring: anxiety; depression; obsessive compulsive disorder; post-traumatic stress disorder; grief; and sexual identify. With the right support, none of these challenges prevents clients from setting and achieving significant goals on their path to creating a meaningful life.

I have been on this journey of personal development and growth myself, and I understand how difficult and challenging it can be to take the step towards transformation. Exploring the inner self, personality, relationships, childhood traumas and issues that are getting in the way of living a fulfilling life, takes courage. This work is a process and my approach is client centred. As a therapist, I foster a compassionate and caring environment where clients feel safe and supported in their therapy process. I realize the importance of each person's life story and how the uniqueness, and expression of it impacts how they live.

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
