Welcome to my page! If you are here, chances are that something in your life is not sitting well with you right now. Perhaps you are facing a serious challenge and you are having trouble coping. Maybe you are stuck, worried, or sad and you just can’t seem to make any meaningful change on your own. The good news is that you don’t have to be alone! We will work together to examine your life, study the problem itself, and determine what steps we can take that will benefit you. You will find a confidential space where we can understand not only your concerns and vulnerabilities, but also your strengths, goals and your progress.
Do you sometimes experience struggle in your life because of conflict between what you find erotic and your personal values? Do you have problems in relationships because of your sexual behaviours or interests? Do you feel that your sexual behaviours might be out of control? Or, do you struggle with a decrease in your desire for intimacy in your relationships, have problems with sexual arousal or struggle with performance anxiety? If you find yourself saying 'yes' to any of these questions, treatment with a qualified sex and relationship therapist like myself might be right for you.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.
I am intrigued by the way that humans are wired to connect with others. In my practice, I strive to build a meaningful connection between us in a gentle and caring way. Similarly, I aim to assist you in building authentic connections with important people in your life. I will help you to explore your strengths and resilience while assisting with the goals that brought you to therapy. I value diversity and the strength that it brings to the development of authentic relationships. I operate from a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive framework that is LGBTQ2IA+ affirming.
You have big responsibilities! — With little time and even less energy! You may feel as though you are being pulled in many directions or juggling different roles - such as student, worker, caregiver, or provider. You may go through times when you feel distressed, confused, and empty. You may have lost a sense of connection to who you are, what you want out of life, and how to show up for others because of burnout, stress, and overwhelm! I too have felt blindsided and felt as though I was losing control; it can be frightening!
In my years of practice, my focus has been centred around individuals from different walks of life (i.e race, religion, sexual orientation). Particularly, ones who have trauma, body image issues, low self esteem, phobias and/or are anxious, depressed, stressed, destructive, angry, lonely, abused and in or have been in the child welfare system. In regards to my approach, I am genuine and compassionate, but remain equally honest and direct. Rather than bombarding clients with endless questions, I aim to engage them through meaningful methods and effective interventions.
Are you successful outwardly, but deep down feel a nagging lack of personal fulfilment? Are you swamped with life, and wondering how to achieve more balance, meaning and purpose? Do you want to improve your emotional health and wellbeing, silence your Inner Critic and boost your self-confidence? Are you curious about this "mindfulness" thing that everyone is talking about these days? If so, let's work together! I primarily work with Millennials, Gen Y and Gen Xers who are feeling overwhelmed and dissatisfied with their lives, struggle with low self-esteem and self-worth, or facing difficulty with "adulting."
My ambition will always be to support the mental wellness and healing of children and adolescents. I am Registered Psychotherapist and Art Therapist with over 10 years of working experience with youth in educational, clinical and hospital settings. My training has involved attachment theory, child development, trauma research, CBT, DBT and suicide prevention.
You are a high achiever, on a great career path, and have loved ones who support you. You like to plan things out and approach life rationally. However, sometimes it feels something is missing – you can’t handle the ups and downs of life and get anxious. You have a hard time controlling your thoughts and emotions. You may feel responsible for others emotions and their perceptions of you. Sometimes you ask: What’s the point? What’s the meaning of all of this? It can be really hard to navigate life with all of this brewing under the surface
Some of us are born with really big emotions and they can be difficult to rein in. Being sensitive is a double-edged sword. It comes with an extraordinary capacity to be lively, connected with others, generate insights, and experience life with great intensity. However, without solid regulation skills, we can also suffer tremendously and get lost on our path. This might describe you or one (or more) of your children. It may feel like the relationships in your family are strained or chaotic – in a way that is hard to get out of. You are not alone!
As a psychologist, my goal is to support my clients to deepen self-understanding and awareness while calming and alleviating present distress. I welcome working with adult individuals and couples from all racial, religious, cultural, gender identity, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
I am trained in and use a variety of research and evidence-based intervention modalities in my therapy sessions. I work with individuals presenting with a range of issues including: life changes and adjustment difficulties, social and generalized anxiety, depression, relationship and family difficulties, substance abuse, identity related issues, and work and school related stress.
Inevitably life takes you through its ups and downs. And somewhere along the road “real” life happens! Many times before you have managed to get up, shake it off, and go on despite temporary setbacks. But now, this time, you are so bogged down you feel you cannot get up. This may be one of the lowest points in your life. And you can’t bear to let anyone know or see how much you are stuggling. You do not want to bother others with your problems. Or worse, you fear they simply will not understand. You feel disappointed, broken, lost, and alone. You think you have reached the end of the road.
You may be an overachiever, perfectionist, or someone with large emotions, feeling like an outsider. You may struggle to find the good in each day, just holding on through the chaos of the day. You may feel exhausted, as if you are just going through the motions. You may find yourself irritable, on edge, and ready to snap at any given moment. This may not be how things have always been, but now you have been stuck in this loop too long. Let me reassure you — you are not alone. I am here to listen and to guide you. Together we will work on understanding where you have been, where you are now, and where you would like to go.
People require help with various issues at some point of their lifes. It could be difficulty making a decision, relationship problems, dissatisfaction with career, financial warries, losses, illness, or injury. Regardless of the magnitude of the problem it is often beneficial to discuss your problem with a professional who may help you to see the issue from a different perspective and to arrive to a satisfactory solution. Some problems require numerous sessions, but sometimes even one or few sessions result in improved mood and self-confidence and help to gain insights that could lead to desired changes.
Taking the first step towards reaching out to a therapist can feel very overwhelming, so congratulations for taking that step today! The reasons for connecting with a therapist are varied and unique to the individual, as such my practice is to work to fully understand the concerns you are navigating, as you see them. In unpacking the concerns and the subsequent impact, we can work together to explore different ways of responding to the issues you're facing, be it a change of circumstance, or a change in how you feel about the circumstance. Together we can work towards creating a life that is more rich and meaningful on your terms.
I’m pleased to connect with you. Psychotherapy can be a place to explore different aspects of yourself such as prioritizing your needs, self-compassion, etc., while also gaining a broader perspective. I’m here to support your goals, journey, and challenges along the way- Ultimately, I want you to feel comfortable and safe to explore your issues with me.
Do you feel disconnected from yourself and those around you? Do you feel like there's more to life than what you're living? Busy schedules and daily routines make it difficult for us to get to know who we truly are and reconnect to the things that were once important. My work with clients often explores relationships, finding meaning and purpose, life transitions, femininity, overcoming anxiety, cultivating authentic self-expression, and developing intuition and confidence. I work with you to deepen your relationship with yourself and reconnect to what you desire most so you can reclaim your power and live a meaningful life.
