I use an integrative approach from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic modalities, mindfulness and more.
I have always been curious about human behaviour and passionate about using that curiosity to help others. That curiosity led to building many meaningful connections. My goal is to connect with others, provide a safe place for discussions, and offer empathetic support without judgment. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I believe in the importance of empathy and building a strong connection with others. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in healing and growth.

Using a specialized psychodynamic approach, I'll help you access memories and emotions safely, which allows you to heal from your pain and live your life in freedom, joy, and peace.
As a Christian woman, it’s hard navigating your experiences of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Your pain and suffering makes you question “If God is good, then why hasn’t he healed me? Is there something wrong with me? Do I not have enough faith?” Maybe past painful experiences of abuse or neglect haunt you and you can’t seem to forgive and move on. Depression and anxiety feel out of your control leaving you scared and hopeless. You pray and pray and pray and it doesn’t stop. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help as you hoped. You desire and need the peace promised in the bible but it feels so far away.

I use an attachment and trauma-informed lens and integrate psychodynamic and relational modalities.
I am committed to building a relationship that supports your unique needs, develops your strengths and fosters your innate ability to heal. Often, we aren’t afforded the time, opportunity or privilege to learn the most beneficial ways to sift through what comes our way. We tackle things as best we can using strategies learned from previous experiences. In some situations, our default strategies end up taking us further away from what we want. This can prevent us from fulfilling our needs - we may get stuck not knowing how to cope or how to move forward. I primarily use non talk-therapy modules of Structural Dissociation, EMDR, DBR.

These include mindfulness, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive or dialectical behavioral therapy, and relational therapy.
I shape my approach to my clients' needs and circumstances, as no two people lead the same lives. To almost everyone however, therapy can offer a judgement free reflective zone, laying the groundwork for growth and wellness. Whether it is events in your past, specific challenges in the present, or worries about the future, therapy can provide the much needed insight and perspective. In addition to this, I make sure to set mutual, achievable milestones with my clients, to give direction to the work we will do together.

I draw upon psychodynamic theory, trauma-informed practices, attachment theory and solution-focussed therapy to form a personalized approach.
I believe that the most worthwhile challenges are those that we encounter within ourselves; ones that we may feel stuck in from time-to-time because they require us to face our greatest fears. Many people seek therapy because they are not sure how to move forward. My goal is to help you find solid ground, and also to discover the sense of freedom, joy, and equanimity that can come with greater self-knowledge and personal growth. I work with adults of all backgrounds on issues related to self-esteem, life transitions, occupational stress and burnout, depression, anxiety and grief.

Trained in psychodynamic therapy, I aim to provide you with a safe and secure container, as well as relationship, in which to process your past and present experiences.
Whether you're experiencing isolation, frustration, low self-worth, difficulty maintaining emotional well-being, or relationship challenges, let's talk it through. Talk therapy can help us arrive at a more complete understanding for why we're feeling the way we're feeling, or what's fueling our actions, behaviours, emotional responses, needs, and desires. Growing this awareness can be the first step towards shifting the lens through which we see ourselves and the world to one that might offer us more compassion, hope, permission to pursue new or more compatible directions, and encouragement so we can feel better.

I offer deeply compassionate client-centred services for adolescents and adults. I am trained in the evidence-based models of Psychodynamic , ACT, CBT, and Narrative therapy as well as the Creative Arts Therapies (Role theory, Psychodrama, Improv, etc.), and so interweave these modalities to best suit my client’s needs. My therapy approach goes beyond talk therapy, to also be embodied, creatively expressive, and somatically based. In this way emotions, memories, and presenting issues are explored and processed not only with words but with movement, metaphors, play, and body relaxation techniques.

My work draws on the humanistic, existential and psychodynamic traditions of Western psychology, and is grounded in the wisdom of Eastern philosophies, somatic work, mindfulness and meditation.
Suffering is an inherent part of the human experience. In the course of a lifetime, crises happen, unpredictable challenges arise, and in response we develop habit patterns that are often protective but also inhibit our growth and freedom. Therapy will help clear the path so that you can see a way forward. I walk that path with you and provide a container for self-exploration and inquiry. I work with mood disturbances, trauma, attachment issues, self-esteem, and spiritual emergence. Depth therapy is a journey that will take you into yourself and lead you back to yourself while being witnessed by a safe, compassionate presence.

My training and areas of practice include CBT, DBT skills, Psychodynamic /Trauma informed, Parenting, Couple/Family therapy, Group work.
The reasons for pursuing counselling are as unique as the individual seeking it out. There could be questions around an emerging identity, a difficult relationship or social issue, a separation/divorce or a child’s school difficulties or emotional distress. Whatever the presenting issue is for clients, there is most often over- whelming feelings of worry, sadness and confusion.

Trained in long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy, working relationally within an existential framework.
Supporting you through life transitions, coming to terms with previous traumas (including sexual assault), concerns related to gender and sexuality, struggling with anxiety, depression, meaning, relationship challenges, and complex grief (including childhood loss). The process is truly collaborative; we work together to consider your current patterns and explore how they may be connected to various times or parts of your life. In gaining an understanding of how you experience things and your characteristic ways of engaging with the world, treatment is tailored to work best for you and the results you'd like to see in therapy.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
