I have specialized my training in Infant Mental Health and am pursuing my PMH-C from Postpartum Support International.
The decision to start a family is fraught with myths, expectations, and ideals. In reality, parenthood is different for everyone, and filled with ups and downs of enormous magnitude. When we try to fit parenthood into a perfect box, we leave little space for people to create their own story. If you are planning a family, expecting a child, have recently had an infant join your family, are struggling with parenting your young children, and/or are feeling disconnected from yourself and your loved ones, therapy can be helpful for you!

During these unprecedented times, I have been providing psychotherapy to a wide range of clients in private practice and in a women's shelter with pregnant and postpartum women.
Something is off. You're not enjoying things like you used to. You don't have the confidence you once had. Simple things like going for a walk or having dinner with a friend seem so difficult. Whether these issues have crept up on you during the pandemic or they have always been present, you are realizing that you would like to do something about it. You don't want to feel down or anxious anymore.

Areas of Care: Trauma; Oppression and gender-based violence; Reproductive health and fertility; Maternal mental health ( prenatal , postpartum , PTSD); Grief; Anxiety and depression; First Responders; Voice and communication; Personal growth and professional/career development; Major life changes/decision making.
With a deep curiosity for the human condition, I practice Integrative Therapy combining elements drawn from various methods (including EMDR, IFS, CBT, mindfulness, and the Tri-Phasic Trauma Practice Model) to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation. I believe that healing is a collaborative endeavour and that the therapeutic relationship is as important as the therapy itself. I offer 30-minute complimentary consultations.

I apply directive therapeutic strategies to help my clients overcome challenges and achieve their goals. I primarily assist individuals and couples struggling with pregnancy loss and infertility. I also help members of the LGBTQ community build families using Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Another segment of my client base are individuals seeking help for anxiety, depression and/or low-self-esteem. In addition, I use my background in fitness and wellness to guide my clients looking to lose weight or improve their overall health.

I intend to take an extended pregnancy leave beginning in April 2023 without a firm date of when I will return.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a relationship with each client that gives space to explore the impact of external stories and your internal worlds. I work mostly with neurodivergent individuals – people who self-identify as Autistic, ADHD, gifted, highly sensitive etc. – with interest in navigating the harmful impact of dominant social norms. My approaches are borrowed from Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness and Religion, with some influence from CBT and Art Therapy.

I love working with individuals who are looking for support with their anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, miscarriage , abortion, or navigating relationships.
***WELCOMING NEW CLIENTS, ADULTS AND TEENS. *** Therapy is a space to land: to feel supported, brave, listened to and centred. As a practitioner with 10 years of experience in yoga and meditation, I am guided by a belief that the mind and body are interconnected. We’ll work collaboratively to challenge self-held beliefs and nurture your strengths and values. I’m a firm believer that healing ultimately lies in integration, so with that in mind, we’ll not only focus on the symptoms of your pain but also develop a capacity to hold your pain with mindfulness and compassion.

Trauma subspecialties include: religious, perinatal , and complex trauma.
With gentleness, curiosity and humour, I've walked with people at all ages and stages: facing mental illness or trauma, dealing with infertility or baby loss, embracing queer identity, wrestling with spirituality, living with disability. Your story is central, but talking isn't everything: some of our deepest wounds are held in realms beyond words. Because I often work with trauma and embodied pain, I use neurobiology-based somatic approaches. I use Internal Family Systems (inner parts work) and other approaches that engage clients’ creative, imaginative, and meditative sides in the service of healing.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
