My lived experience: Autistic, Queer, Poly, in a happy marriage .
You may be an adult struggling with ADHD or Autism. Perhaps newly diagnosed and trying to understand your life through this lens. You may have problems with anxiety or compulsive behaviours (alcohol, substances, sex). You may have grown up in a family that didn't fully support your emotional needs or understood your neurodivergency. Your relationships may be strained. Perhaps your people believe you could use some help. I have been there and I have the training to support you towards a happier life. I work with mindfulness, with harm reduction or secular abstinence-based addiction recovery models, and with psychedelic medicines.

Life transition expert university, marriage , parenting, retirement and grief /loss.
Talking in person or virtual, at a free consult with me and tea, is step one. Step two we work together on your past hurts, relationships, roadblocks, and whats getting you down. It takes bravery to say, I am anxious, I need some help, sometimes there is no apparent reason. It ok to come when feeling burnt out, struggling with relationships, work, grief or family life . Learning about yourself is the work, telling me how you respond to life’s pressures starts from the get go. Need to relax, I have just the the thing ask about experiencing “Let it go”. In person, on line, by phone connect how you prefer for the support you deserve.

Some reasons people seek treatment: Emotional distress - Relationships, Family, Work Abuse - physical and/or sexual Substance abuse or Addiction Eating disorders and/or Body image problems Anxiety - Phobia - Panic Personality disorders Depression or mood change Sexual and/or Marriage -Relationship difficulties Life management - Stress management Career planning Help with decision making, good choices Reality checks.
Any of us may become scared or frustrated by events in our lives. Sometimes parts of our lives just don't seem to be working out. We may become unhappy and come to an impasse. It is inevitable that we come face to face with a crisis of illness or loss. Some may have experienced a relationship breakdown or disturbing dreams and memories. Any one of these can make life seem overwhelming. Even when we find the courage to admit what's happening, those closest to us are not equipped to help us. At these times it is often helpful to talk with a therapist

Marriage Counselling

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
