Have you or someone you love been faced with depression, anxiety, addiction, loss , or a traumatic life event? I have an extensive educational, professional, and personal background in these areas of specialty.
Greetings! I’m Samantha and I’m the founder of Curated Counselling: a practice built on a personalized and compatible counselling experience. Miriam Webster’s Dictionary defines “curated” as: “carefully chosen and thoughtfully organized and presented” - which is precisely what Curated Counselling brings to the table. In a mental health culture of cookie cutter and “one size fits all” approaches to healing, I strive to provide my clients with a personalized experience tailored to them and their individual needs.

I have a special interest in relationships; understanding how we come to relate with ourselves and one another, and the ways this connects with our unique world-views, beliefs, and life’s meaning. Together we will co-create our therapeutic relationship, valuing authenticity and creativity. And in the therapy room we might explore grief and bereavement , life transitions, queerness, anxiety, depression, and understanding emotions and identity. My style starts with a trauma-informed approach, and I draw on techniques from narrative therapy, internal family systems, and mindfulness-based therapy.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Existential-Humanistic approach, attachment-based and mindfulness-based therapies, as well as psychotraumatology inform my understanding and ability to address experiences of relational wounds, emotional “burnout”, grief and loss , uncertainty, despair, broken heart, loneliness as well as fear and restlessness.
There are moments in our lives when we are looking for a change, figuring out the next step, getting stuck and feeling that we can’t live our life fully. There are, also, moments of deep emotional pain, disappointments, struggles that come from our encounter with isolation, change, meaning, separation/attachment, death . Not always we can see clearly how to tackle life challenges and we want to have someone to check with, be heard, get ideas for the new directions. Learning to face the inevitable problems, difficulties, upsets, and crises of existence with confidence is what therapy is all about.

We enter psychotherapy for a wide variety of reasons: The death or loss of a loved one, illness, job loss , divorce, addiction, etc., but all of us seek help because we are trying to find a better way to deal with the reality we are facing. My job as a psychotherapist is to help you talk about your emotions and reactions in a safe environment, figure out where these emotions and reactions are coming from, observe whether your reactions produce the desired outcomes and, discover new ways to react, if that would produce more desirable outcomes

With 15 years of experience as the head counsellor at The Michener Institute, I offer professional support for anxiety, depression, grief , trauma and family challenges. My use of both Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) gives me a wide range of options for support for both individual and couples. Gestalt focuses on the 'here and now,' our body experiences and childhood patterns and helps us be present in our relationships. CBT has been rigorously tested in over 1000 studies, and is a therapy that supports depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), panic and anxiety, phobias and stress.

From self discovery, grief & loss , trauma, relationships, family conflict, life transitions, depression, anxiety, & illness.
Hi I'm Nicole, a psychotherapist with over 14 years of counselling experience. It's an honour to wade with people into the love & fear, pain & beauty, messy & magic of life. Healing & self discovery can feel like contending with the vastness of space, so we will work together to move through the stars and build constellations of relations that sustain life and meaning. My approach is deeply relational, compassionate, creative, trauma & structurally informed. Where individual experiences aren't disconnect from movements in community, or struggles through colonialism, capitalism, or cis-heteropatriarchy.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
