I use various models including emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, and internal- family systems ("parts work"), drawing from theories of attachment, trauma and neurobiology.
Are you feeling stuck, alone, overwhelmed, lost or yearning for more meaning in life? I believe therapy offers a unique opportunity for inner exploration to gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, relationship dynamics, past experiences and cultural contexts that have impacted your current struggles. Through our work together I will support you in developing more balanced perspectives, relating to yourself with more compassion, learning flexible ways of coping, building connection, and empowerment to move towards the life you desire.

Many men have difficulty keeping their word to themselves (both in small matters and large) let alone to wives, partners, family col-leagues and friends.
I have run men's groups for nearly 30 years helping men become more effective and loving husbands partners, fathers and sons as well as better stewards in their outside world. The aim of this Men's Group is to create a context where each man is able to be honest, vulnerable and feel safe enough to speak his previously undisclosed inner truth in the presence of other supportive men, and to feel and show emotions other than anger. A place where men can feel their deepest emotions - laugh and cry and restore a true brotherhood.

I help people reduce conflict, restore integrity, find ease, confidence and joy in their lives, even when it seems impossible. Through this work, you can harness your own innate ability to face and transform the challenges of living, loving, working and parenting. Together we create a compassionate and courageous space where you are heard and understood within the wider context of your family and environment. Using the neuroscience of emotion, this work addresses problems at the root, rather than focusing on behaviours or symptoms.

Some of us are born with really big emotions and they can be difficult to rein in. Being sensitive is a double-edged sword. It comes with an extraordinary capacity to be lively, connected with others, generate insights, and experience life with great intensity. However, without solid regulation skills, we can also suffer tremendously and get lost on our path. This might describe you or one (or more) of your children. It may feel like the relationships in your family are strained or chaotic – in a way that is hard to get out of. You are not alone!

I am a trained individual, couples, and family psychotherapist with experience delivering evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my practice.
It takes courage to be vulnerable and it can be uncomfortable to discuss your difficulties with a therapist. Whether you are dealing with overwhelming emotions, a new experience, or seeking meaningful change, I would be happy to help. As a psychotherapist, my goal is to create a warm and supportive atmosphere so that we can explore new insights in an open and non-judgmental space. Regardless of your reasons for coming to therapy, it is important for me that we work together to determine your goals and priorities. I offer evidence-based therapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Accepting new clients: Are you feeling anxiety in relationships? You don’t feel seen and heard. You’re stuck between different cultures, norms, and expectations. Unprocessed events and trauma can show up as overwhelm, depression, conflicts with others, lack of boundaries, codependency, and low self-confidence and self-esteem. This can include something that happened within a small circle such as family and romantic relationships or systemic trauma such as discrimination. In my therapy, I will help you connect with yourself better and make the changes you want in your life, to arrive at a peaceful place and live an authentic life.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
