We often overlook the ways that ADHD impacts our emotions and relationships, where feelings of overwhelm, guilt, shame, frustration, and anger can leave us feeling stuck and isolated. I can help you feel more calm, confident, and in control, to uncover your strengths and improve your relationship with yourself and others. My approach is trauma-informed. This means that I’ll identify your “bad habits” as learned adaptive responses to a maladaptive environment, not character flaws.

I provide psychotherapy to adults experiencing mood related and anxiety concerns, stress, ADHD and focusing challenges, identity concerns, interpersonal difficulties, attachment trauma, as well as to individuals who are undergoing life transitions.
Are you feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or as though you aren't living authentically? I work closely with my clients to compassionately address issues of importance to them, such as identifying emotions and thought patterns, exploring difficult interpersonal dynamics, recognizing behavioural patterns and defenses, developing & implementing coping skills, deepening self-compassion, and making meaningful shifts in their lives. I am mindful that seeking out therapy and sharing your experiences feels vulnerable and intend to create a shared understanding of what may be happening for you in a non-judgmental way.

My goal as a therapist is to provide a relationship with each client that gives space to explore the impact of external stories and your internal worlds. I work mostly with neurodivergent individuals – people who self-identify as Autistic, ADHD , gifted, highly sensitive etc. – with interest in navigating the harmful impact of dominant social norms. My approaches are borrowed from Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness and Religion, with some influence from CBT and Art Therapy.

You may be an adult struggling with ADHD or Autism. Perhaps newly diagnosed and trying to understand your life through this lens. You may have problems with anxiety or compulsive behaviours (alcohol, substances, sex). You may have grown up in a family that didn't fully support your emotional needs or understood your neurodivergency. Your relationships may be strained. Perhaps your people believe you could use some help. I have been there and I have the training to support you towards a happier life. I work with mindfulness, with harm reduction or secular abstinence-based addiction recovery models, and with psychedelic medicines.

I specialize in mental health, trauma, addiction, ABI, ADHD , depression, anxiety, stress, attachment issues, other emotion regulation difficulties, and mindfulness-based practice.
I'm passionate about helping and connecting with others. My wealth of clinical and front line experience provides me with expertise and practical skills not possessed by most therapists. I view each client as an expert in their own lives, largely integrating their goals in counselling. My work is inspired by the science of neuroplasticity, thus I provide education about human behaviour and brain functioning to help clients make sense of their difficulties and see their challenges from a normalizing view. Many clients find this information to be helpful, hopeful, and empowering, as it gives us a roadmap for resolving their issues.

Although I'm open to working with all people, I specialize in supporting individuals with relationship concerns, ADHD and autism, men's issues and mood & emotional concerns.
I shape my approach to my clients' needs and circumstances, as no two people lead the same lives. To almost everyone however, therapy can offer a judgement free reflective zone, laying the groundwork for growth and wellness. Whether it is events in your past, specific challenges in the present, or worries about the future, therapy can provide the much needed insight and perspective. In addition to this, I make sure to set mutual, achievable milestones with my clients, to give direction to the work we will do together.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
