The impacts of trauma rewire the brain and nervous system to experience the world as a threatening place. This adaptation alters how we relate to ourselves and others, and it leads us away from authentic identity. Trauma, whether big or small, includes events like past childhood abuse, emotional neglect, violence, grief, rejection, chronic pain and illness, to name a few. You may become stressed, anxious, experience intrusive thoughts, fear, and rage. You may feel alone, easily triggered, trapped, and like there’s a void within—like you just can’t be yourself again. Yet, you have no clue that it all stems from unprocessed trauma.

While the experience of pain is universal, each one of us has a relationship to it that is specific and unique. I believe that every one of us has the ability to alchemize that personal experience into growth, awareness and ultimately, positive change. My passion is working with people in that process, and helping them discover their inner resilience and strength, while offering a variety of tools that can last a lifetime. I take a collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to therapy services for individuals, couples and families.

The reality of living in the modern world is disconnection on many levels: from the natural world, our bodies, our emotional experience, sense of community, our authentic Self. This is further impacted by trauma or painful life experiences. It is my belief that this disconnection is at the root of much of our suffering. I bring a grounded presence and compassionate curiosity to the therapeutic relationship. My role is to guide and walk alongside you in the process of reconnecting to your own inner wisdom, taking action in alignment with your values, while meeting all parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion.

My companionate, nonjudgemental,
trauma focused
approach is uniquely tailored to each client and offers practical solutions while also encouraging profound and lasting change.
It's ok not to feel ok. If you grew up in a damaging environment, you had to develop ingenious ways of surviving. Enduring your childhood is proof of your strength and ability to cope. However, you're no longer that child and feel just surviving isn't enough. The problem is that the past won't let you move on—your suffering is not your fault. What helped you survive may now be preventing growth. It is time to rewrite your narrative. Join me, and together we will give voice to the parts of you that have been shamed, hidden and denied. We can't undo the grave injustices you had to endure, but we can take away their power.

Incorporating the mind and body, I draw from psychodynamic, somatic, attachment based and
trauma focused
frameworks.
Life can feel challenging at times, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, worry, anger, shame, fear, grief or despair. Struggling with difficult emotions can take away from living in the present moment. Instead you may find yourself dealing with anxiety, self-criticism, over-thinking, reliving painful memories and stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will slow things down so we can explore your experiences and the parts of you that may be hard to understand.

I support individuals experiencing challenges with relationship/attachment patterns, low self-esteem, anxiety, school/career stress, depression, grief/loss, trauma, and life transitions. My approach begins with building a therapeutic rapport to provide space for exploring, curiosity, and healing. I practice from a framework that recognizes your individual strengths, is informed by attachment, considers neuroscience research, and is cognizant of any past trauma/circumstances that brought you here. Collaboratively, we will use a combination of evidence-based strategies to manage your current concerns and foster hope and resilience.

I believe that all people have the capacity to find healing and wisdom in themselves. I approach therapy through a multicultural, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming lens where you are supported to be the expert in your own life and empowered in the work we do. We will explore together, in a collaborative way, where you feel understood and in charge of the process. I value autonomy in my own life and I want other people to learn to cultivate their autonomy and experience how powerful and intentional they can be.

How can I find a therapist in Downtown, Toronto?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
