Within this process I will utilize a diverse approach that creatively includes therapeutic modalities such as narrative and cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, and art-based activities.
Investing in our mental health transforms all aspects of our lives! As a social worker and therapist with ten years of experience, my desire to support people in their healing work is rooted in my passion to cultivate safe, accessible and affirming resources for all of the intersectional identities we hold. I believe that we possess enormous strengths and courage that have guided our footsteps into this present moment. Depression, anxiety, family breakdowns and trauma can deeply impact how we see ourselves. Through therapy we can be better equipped with the capacity to conquer these challenges and live full and wholesome lives.

In my therapy practice, I combine mindfulness & compassion-based approaches, art therapy/expressive arts therapy, somatic body-based approaches, parts oriented approaches (Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST/ Internal Family Systems (IFS), and narrative therapy techniques to support children, teens & adults facing a variety of concerns.
Life is a rollercoaster. It’s full of constant ups & downs. For many of us, it can become too overwhelming to face it alone. Having the support of a experienced, empathic & attuned therapist who can work with you to face life challenges with more ease & self-compassion, while learning effective coping practices for future stressors can be a supportive way to navigate life’s many uncertainties.

I draw from mindfulness and somatic-based approaches in my work, which include Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Compassion Focused Therapy.
I believe that therapy should always be a place where we find unconditional acceptance, are held in a positive light, regularly gain insights and reflection, and are free to voice our thoughts and feelings without fearing criticism or shame. I have experience supporting individuals with depression, anxiety, struggles with substance use, relationship challenges, trauma, and issues of identity and self-worth related to race, culture, family, gender and sexuality.

I offer therapy to increase your resiliency to life's challenges and to reduce the suffering from anxiety, depression and high stress levels. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental environment, helping you see your problems with more clarity and to make changes in how you cope with difficulties. I have extensive training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I offer active, practical and goal-oriented therapy. Rather than simply talk about your problems, I will listen, reflect and then help you implement solutions to problems or to make changes in your thinking patterns and actions.

My practice is influenced from narrative, mindfulness, IFS, and art therapy approaches.
As a bi-cultural, Egyptian, Arab, first-generation immigrant woman, I draw on my lived experience and understand that it takes courage to seek the vulnerable experience of therapy. This encourages me to listen with empathy, collaboratively looking with you for ways to heal. While it is challenging to look inwards, by understanding our experience we can begin to deepen our connection to ourselves. I see therapy as a vehicle for transformation on a non linear, non judgmental path.

Using embodiment and mindfulness techniques, we’ll work on building the skills you need to anchor through the storm of difficult thoughts and emotions, so you can move forward feeling more aligned with your purpose.
Feeling like you don’t have the permission to be yourself? Following a narrative that is not your own can lead to anxiety, depression, and confusion. Perhaps you wish you could be more present in your everyday activities and relationships, but aren’t quite sure how to get there. You may even find yourself in situations where you ask yourself, “Who am I?” or “Why am I here?”. Struggling to feel whole while constantly managing the pull between different identities can be exhausting. Your sense of self feels fragmented, but know that being able to live according to your own values and leading a more meaningful life is within reach.

I integrate the mind-body connection into my practice; this includes combining psychotherapy methods with mindfulness, meditation, breath and somatic work.
Being human is not always easy. Life experiences can leave you feeling fractured and lost. You may feel disconnected from self, relationships, work or your community. You may be experiencing hopelessness, anxiety, racing or intrusive thoughts. You may feel stuck in a cycle of behaviour that is no longer aligned with the life you want. You may feel overwhelmed and are struggling to focus or stay present. I'd like to help. Together we can explore issues, discover your goals, and develop tools and strategies to help your daily life feel more manageable and fulfilling.

My approach draws inspiration from mindfulness, cognitive and dialectical behaviour therapy, parts work, and other techniques.
If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or a different challenge, finding a therapist is a great place to start. Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to speak openly about your feelings, fears, and hopes for your future. Why is this valuable? Exploring your emotional landscape provides insight into the obstacles that may be getting in the way of your wellbeing. By engaging in therapy, you can deepen your understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. Enhanced self-awareness opens up possibilities for healing and change, helping you align how you live with who you are.

My approach is grounded in 15 years of psychotherapy practice and integrates Western psychological modalities with Eastern holistic practices such as yogic breathwork and Mindfulness Meditation.
I work with clients who are seeking a more fulfilling life but are unsure of the path to a peaceful and happy future. I use a gentle and non-judgemental approach to help my clients move forward. I help clients build confidence and self-awareness while teaching them to tap into their mind-body connection and their intuitive sense of knowing, or gut feelings. I have worked with people from different backgrounds including those who have experienced traumatic pasts. By providing a safe space to be witnessed, I guide my clients to explore the roots of their suffering while supporting them in recovering from difficult experiences.

In my work with you, I draw on evidence-based practices including emotion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and CBT.
You’ve been through a lot. Life and its challenges keep you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and confused, like heavy boulders in your way. Perhaps, you are going through a difficult transition and finding it hard to adjust or something in your life just doesn’t feel right. You might be feeling numb, angry, sad, hopeless, scared… you may be feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders. You might not know where or how to start. Therapy can be an intimidating experience as it requires us to open up to our inner world. Taking the first step is hard and I value the courage it takes to make that first stride.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
