Many men struggle with their mental health without seeking help or reaching out for support.
In our work together, we will explore how you arrived at this part of your journey and identify unhelpful and destructive thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that have impacted your ability to live authentically and be true to yourself. We will develop goals and clarify values that are meaningful to you while focusing on your strengths, gifts, and assets.

I am a queer, transgender man who specializes in spiritually-integrated psychotherapy, grief and loss, substance use and process/behavioural addictions (including harm reduction approaches), sexuality and gender identity, and the impacts of community exile, slander, gossip or cancellation.
I work from both exploratory and solution-focused approaches, allowing for flexibility with clients who have defined goals as well as those with uncertainty about what change might look like. I particularly love assisting clients to take stock of, edit, and rewrite the stories they have about their lives, their strengths and challenges.

I work with individuals, couples, and youth, including men, women, and non-binary people from settler, Indigenous, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities.
Change is a difficult and humbling process. Patience, kindness, and self-forgiveness are often not lessons we learned as children. Talk therapy isn’t about advice or guidance; it’s about learning to listen to your decision-making processes, noticing your emotions, understanding the needs you're trying to meet, discovering your value system, and making small, deliberate changes. In session, we'll tailor our work to your specific concerns. Seeking therapy, facing challenging patterns, and making tough decisions takes courage. I congratulate you for it.

Too often, as adult men and women of all ages and stages in life, we are told we need to be strong, face challenges, or manage significant change on our own.
Most of us are hesitant to share our most intimate thoughts, emotions, and details about our lives for fear of being judged, ridiculed, or shamed. If we do, it can seem that no one understands what we’re going through and we feel even more alone. It can be incredibly healing to speak to someone in a safe, non-judgemental, and respectful environment.

As a gay man, my own journey has included anxiety, depression, addiction and recovery, and I know how much courage it takes to reach out for help.
How you connect with your therapist will be the most important factor in determining how you make progress in therapy. This bond and comfort to share personal information should start to build from the first meeting. With that in mind, I will provide a supportive, non-judgemental environment from which you can explore what is important to you. I have extensive training and experience (12 years counsellor; 9 years social worker, in hospitals, community settings and private practice) providing effective treatment for adult individuals, couples, groups, and supervising other therapists.

I focus on men with avoidant attachment styles.
One of the most courageous acts we can perform is beginning to understand our own story. Going through my struggles, I can promise you that I know! I want to help you achieve breakthroughs and realizations of repeated unhealthy patterns in your life while enjoying the process as much as possible and discovering why you feel, think, and do what you do. Simply put, therapy hasn't always been a painful thing. It can be intimidating to think about choosing a therapist, but I hope you can be brave and take a minute to call and see how I can help.

I specialize in Narrative practice, working with men navigating trauma, addiction, grief, identity, transitions and more.
My goal is to create a collaborative therapeutic space where you are the expert in your own life. Together, we will explore the stories that shape your experiences, recognizing how struggles can create dominant narratives that overshadow your strengths, values, and preferred ways of being. Therapy is a space to reclaim your voice, rediscover your skills and knowledge, and examine how power, identity, and social and cultural contexts shape life’s challenges. I believe that people are not problems—problems are problems, and together, we can create new possibilities for healing and change

Modern life is challenging. Perhaps you feel anxiety about your career, relationship, health, education, or the state of the world. Perhaps you are overwhelmed by how busy you are or how much others rely on you, leaving no time or capacity to pursue your own goals and desires. Or perhaps you are experiencing depression, loneliness, powerlessness, or a general dissatisfaction with life. Whatever challenges you face, the right therapist can act as a dedicated co-navigator by your side to chart your path forward. I would love the opportunity to play that role for you.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
