I come to this work from a lived experience of incarceration, poverty, homelessness and trauma .
My social work journey began while I was in prison working on the Peer Support Team doing crisis intervention work. While incarcerated, I completed a Women's Studies Degree and upon release I received a Diploma as an Assaulted Women's and Children's Counsellor/Advocate. I went on to complete my Master of Social Work. For over ten years I have been doing community work, harm reduction and therapy with marginalized communities, people who have faced systemic oppression, those who have been incarcerated and their families, people who do sex work, use drugs and struggle with mental health including depression and anxiety.

I will strive to practice from a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, client-centred, trauma -informed framework.
You may come to therapy because you feel lost, alone, angry, confused, empty, fearful, betrayed, or hopeless. Or not. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, unwanted thoughts and feelings, addictions, shame, or guilt. Or not. You may come to therapy because you want to understand how your early experiences are shaping your life. Or you may be curious about the therapeutic process, more generally. Or not.

I have preference for engaging with the queer POC community and have expertise in refugee mental health with particular interest in trauma associated with forced migration due to LGBTQ+ identity.
As a queer person of colour, I bring a unique perspective to supporting people living with challenges associated with identity, gender, sexuality, sexual health, relationship dynamics and forced migration seeking to understand how to develop security and belonging in their surrounding environment. I do my best to support clients with developing both understandings and practical solutions to achieve their goals of managing every day triggers that may impede completing activities of daily living.

I specialize in supporting individuals experiencing post‐traumatic stress and related difficulties such as PTSD and complex trauma , addiction and substance use, eating disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders.
Many of the difficulties that you’re now experiencing were at one point survival strategies that helped you get through difficult times. Yes - even substance use, self-harm, anxiety, eating disorders - all of these got you to right now. The problem is that you no longer need them and they're now interfering with your quality of life, challenge your relationships, and leave you feeling stuck and out of control. I want to help you overcome these difficulties by processing the past and developing new, more effective ways of coping so that you can build a life that excites you!

I am experienced in working with clients who have dissociative disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and trauma .
I am a relational psychotherapist who works to help clients find a sense of empowerment around the issues that are troubling them, to help them explore and understand the meaning and impact of these experiences, and to find change. I draw on many theories, and work particularly in a psychodynamic way (seeing how one is impacted in the present by one's past experiences). With clients who would like to work on childhood issues, I help them resolve and integrate those experiences - family issues, relationship issues, trauma . Together we decide whether short or long term work is preferred.

Most commonly, my clients have lived through grief, complex trauma , existential transitions, anxiety/depression, and identity development challenges.
I invite all who're willing to come to the table with an open mind, ready to do the work. You may not have a clear formulation of your specific challenges, needs, and goals (especially if you've never been to therapy before), but you have the urge to make a change and get the sense that now's the time to do it.

Why does being me feel so difficult? If you’re asking yourself this question, it's perhaps because what used to help you cope with life is no longer working. But your suffering is not your fault. I'll walk with you on your journey towards discovering and unburdening the parts, feelings, and needs in yourself that have been silenced. Hi there. I'm so happy you are reaching out for support. As humans, we are all shaped and transformed by the relationships and experiences we've had. When we feel overwhelmed, numb, off balance or tangled up, a kind and patient relationship in therapy can help us find steady footing and clarity again, giving us the resilience to feel trust within, adapt and thrive. Whether you are a youth or adult looking to strengthen relationships, build confidence, explore ways to communicate or unravel anxiety, grief, depression, or trauma , I am here as your guide.

I’ve worked with people with a range of diagnoses, but have, in my experience, understood the root issue to be trauma .
I believe that the challenges we face are inherently political. Internal struggles are connected to oppressive structures across generations. It is natural to feel hopeless, anxious or afraid in a world that is unjust and working against us. I support BIPOC clients who are feeling alone in these injustices. We work together to understand how our past experiences and present environments impact our wellbeing. I can support with issues related to family dynamics, relationships, diasporic identity, and self worth. I apply Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Internal Family Systems in my approach.

I believe that all people have the capacity to find healing and wisdom in themselves. I approach therapy through a multicultural, trauma -informed, and queer-affirming lens where you are supported to be the expert in your own life and empowered in the work we do. We will explore together, in a collaborative way, where you feel understood and in charge of the process. I value autonomy in my own life and I want other people to learn to cultivate their autonomy and experience how powerful and intentional they can be.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
