For clients who are open to
spirituality
and metaphysics, I also use teachings from various metaphysical texts.
When life’s challenges feel overwhelming, sometimes the support of a professional who can deeply listen and offer astute guidance and insight can make all the difference. I believe in a holistic approach to counselling and educate clients on the importance of integrating their mind, body, and spirit in the healing process. My specialty is working with clients who are in their 20s, 30s and 40s as they navigate various emotional difficulties and transitions in their lives. Depending on what the client deems helpful, I incorporate tools such as Energy Healing, the Enneagram, Meditation, Affirmations, and Inner Child Work.

I recognize religion/
spirituality
may be an important part of your life and have experience inviting religion/
spirituality
into psychotherapy.
At times, life can be challenging. You may feel tired, confused, or like everything is happening all at once. You may doubt yourself or question your purpose in life, leading you to feel overwhelmed or isolated. Whatever you’re going through, you don’t have to go through it alone. Reaching out for help can be difficult, but you deserve a safe space to process your experiences and emotions, as well as the tools to help you navigate life’s challenges. I would be honoured to support you in your journey toward healing.

Your religion,
spirituality
, or culture has become a source of distress, or even suffering—rather than of strength. You’re struggling with feeling pressured to make choices based on cultural/religious expectations and beliefs that don’t work for you, with conflicts in interfaith or multicultural relationships, or perhaps whether to leave or join a religious community. You’ve found yourself thinking, "I don't know who I am anymore, or what I'm doing with my life." Relentless uncertainty or confusion can leave you feeling too drained to cope with life, much less enjoy it. At this point, you just want to feel "not broken."

This program integrates religion and
spirituality
into counselling.
Hello! I'm Rachel and I specialize in counselling LGBTQQ2S+ folx, teens and young adults, and people coping with life transitions. In session, you can anticipate sharing your experiences and being asked to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Together, we will identify the stories you believe about yourself, your relationships, and the world. We will integrate a strengths-based approach to find exceptions to the problems you're facing and identify the strengths you already have. By identifying your strengths, you can begin to rewrite these stories and find creative solutions to improve your quality of life.

I address all aspects of my clients' lives including friendships, family, culture and
spirituality
.
I work with adults who are feeling stressed: they may worry, panic or feel shy in social situations, may try to be perfect, may feel badly about themselves, or wish to express themselves more effectively, or to set clearer boundaries with others, or to be more assertive. I also work with people from the straight and LGBTQ communities who are experiencing challenges in their relationships, with sexuality, sexual orientation, alternative relationships, alternative sexualities, and gender. Many experience these challenges, but some may lose a sense of balance in their lives or the ability to enjoy life and relationships while trying to sort out their concerns.

My practice is rooted in the foundation of psychotherapy and
spirituality
.
The complexity of the human soul is beyond most of our comprehension. Our search for that feeling of ‘enough’ starts from within. You cannot see or appreciate what surrounds you until you are able to embrace the vulnerability of loving your authentic self. The polarity between love and pain is a reflection of the magnitude of the heart’s power. Exploring the innermost core of our existence is as scary as it is liberating. Fear prevents most of us from even attempting this journey.

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
