I integrate various forms of psychotherapy, including psychodynamic , cognitive, somatic & attachment oriented.
We all have natural capacities to right ourselves when things go wrong, but we usually don’t feel that way when we’re looking for therapy. Instead, we often feel stuck and alone, overwhelmed by our feelings and unsatisfied in our relationships. I work with people who want to get unstuck and connect to their innate capacities for growth and change. My main goal is to help you have a positive and true experience of yourself and deeper connections with others.

I use a relational, psychodynamic approach informed by trauma, attachment, somatic and mindfulness theory.
We are living in difficult times. Many people today are feeling alienated from themselves and others, feeling anxious or depressed. Some are feeling little or nothing; others are overwhelmed, having difficulties with relationships, or they're confused about their direction in life. Wherever you are, I will meet you there with kind attention and encouragement, and together we will unravel your tensions and discover how to help you find your inner strength and resourcefulness. I have been practising as a Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist for over 20 years and have helped many people find greater health and fulfillment in life.

I draw on elements of CBT and EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy), but my work is more psychodynamic and person-centred.
When do you get to express and explore your most authentic self? My practice is a warm, safe space where you can speak hard feelings openly, without fear of being judged. If you choose to work with me, I will hold space for you to focus, identify, and sit with potentially uncomfortable emotions and thoughts. I believe that emotions hold meaning and serve a purpose for us. The more we become aware of where our feelings, beliefs, and reactions come from, the better equipped we are to choose how we will respond in the future - rather than just reacting. We can work together to build this emotional awareness.

Psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy helps people to live more authentic, present, and engaged lives by placing priority on building trust and being understood.
Something is wrong, but we can't quite grasp what. We search for a better understanding of ourselves in order to solve our emotional and psychological discontent. We think about the events of the day, relationships, childhood and the past. Still, something doesn't seem right. We act and feel in ways that create discord. I provide psychotherapy for people who are interested in looking for the deeper meaning behind the discomfort in their lives. The goal is to be able to have more meaningful relationships, fulfilling work and societal contributions, as well as the capacity to bear the difficulties that are part of living fully.

The approach I take is an integrative one and I draw upon person-centred, emotionally-focused, psychodynamic , CBT, ACT, and mindfulness techniques.
Do you suffer from overwhelming emotions, depression, or anxiety? Are you feeling adrift or disconnected in your relationships? I bring an open curiosity to your experiences – whatever those may be – and, working together, we can uncover and navigate the internal and external obstacles you face. My goal as your therapist is to create a genuine, empathetic relationship between you and I, through which healing and change can take place. I also see individuals as embedded in broader social contexts that shape how we think, feel, and behave, and which may be implicated in psychological and interpersonal problems.

I am a registered psychotherapist and offer psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. I hold a PhD in Sociology, which gives me a particular appreciation for how psychological and relational difficulties are shaped by life experiences and broader social conditions. I see therapy as a unique conversation involving me listening with a non-judgmental curiosity to help you similarly listen to yourself. This approach enables us to explore the experiences and difficulties that bring you to therapy, whether that be a specific crisis, a period of transition, feelings of "stuckness," relational patterns, emotions that trouble you, or an interest in personal growth.

My approach is psychodynamic , which means that we'll try to uncover the deeper, often unconscious dynamics that are causing your issues.
Most of my clients are men who are intelligent, self-reflective, and successful, but who still somehow feel that something’s missing, or that they haven’t "grown up" in some key way. They are often experiencing some combination of anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, anger, resentment, or relationship problems. I try to create a non-judgmental space for them to feel seen, heard and understood. It’s important for men to share their struggles, fears and shames with other caring and supportive men. This goes against a lot of our cultural conditioning but it helps us to feel that we’re not alone and that we’re actually okay.

I draw from a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
It is a natural part of life that we question our careers and ask ourselves why we do what we do. You may be feeling unfulfilled and purposeless with your career where it feels painful to stay where you are, but it also feels painful to deal with the confusion, overwhelm, stress, and anxiety involved in thinking about what's next and how to transition your career. As a Registered Psychotherapist and Career Counsellor, I'm here to help you manage these emotions and make a strategic, informed decision on what career to pursue next. My approach combines psychotherapy with practical decision-making and action-planning.

Incorporating the mind and body, I draw from psychodynamic , somatic, attachment based and trauma focused frameworks.
Life can feel challenging at times, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, worry, anger, shame, fear, grief or despair. Struggling with difficult emotions can take away from living in the present moment. Instead you may find yourself dealing with anxiety, self-criticism, over-thinking, reliving painful memories and stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will slow things down so we can explore your experiences and the parts of you that may be hard to understand.

I implement techniques borrowed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Interventions.
One of the many things I can appreciate about our society is how people come from different walks of life - we all have a story. These stories, or worldviews, are what shape our personalities and how we perceive and overcome the various obstacles that life may throw at us. I also understand how beginning therapy can be daunting, so I provide a validating and non-judgemental environment with the goal of making clients as comfortable as possible. Helping clients explore their emotions and navigate any problems they may have, together, has always been a passion of mine.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
