I believe we are doing the best we can with the tools available. From my perspective, trauma can get locked in the body if there isn't enough safety to respond in the moment. I will support you in building on the wisdom you already have, and will creatively explore with you the places you feel stuck, shaky, or unmet. Through a relational and experiential process, I will bring attention and compassion to your suffering and untended needs. You can expect me to be warm, direct, steady, and responsive. Additionally, I am Queer & Trans affirming, kink-aware, and knowledgeable around
polyamory
/non monogamy.

Therapy doesn't have to be scary! I know first-hand what it can be like to suffer in silence, longing for change, & struggling to find someone who "gets" you. If you grew up in a home where you didn't get the support that you needed, if you went through something that you feel like you have never recovered from, or if you feel like a black sheep everywhere you go, I would be happy to co-create a non-judgmental healing space where you feel seen, heard, & valued. We can work on things like learning to understand yourself, re-gaining control of your life, & appreciating the parts of you that have clawed you out of your darkest times.

Do you suffer from overwhelming emotions, depression, or anxiety? Are you feeling adrift or disconnected in your relationships? I bring an open curiosity to your experiences – whatever those may be – and, working together, we can uncover and navigate the internal and external obstacles you face. My goal as your therapist is to create a genuine, empathetic relationship between you and I, through which healing and change can take place. I also see individuals as embedded in broader social contexts that shape how we think, feel, and behave, and which may be implicated in psychological and interpersonal problems.

I work with people who are quite conscious of their issues and have a strong drive to address them. Together we invent a unique therapeutic environment designed to take you towards permanent, satisfying change, and to equip you to stay stable and enjoy life with a minimum of ongoing therapeutic support. There is no issue too strange or too dark, because you have come by the effects of your life circumstances honestly and creatively. Longstanding patterns like anxiety, depression and fear can be substantially altered when we enable your own healing power, strengths and skills to emerge to your advantage.

You are energy. Energy is power. YOU are power. Owning it is the path to liberation. I am passionate about helping folks own their value, step into their power and seize their liberation. I call what we do in therapy a collaborative spiritual workout where we put our heads and hearts together to figure out what is going on for you and how to get through it in an empowered way that makes sense and feels right for you. We work at a frequency, depth and pace that works for you, which we figure out together, one conversation at a time.

Therapy, although sometimes challenging, doesn't have to be scary or hard. Some forms of therapy are effective at helping more quickly than others. I have specialized training and skill in these approaches and my focus is on making every session impactful and helpful. My clients leave with something useful in the very first session. Although the length of time needed is different with every client, I will work hard to help get you out of therapy and into the life you want to be living as quickly possible.

Through my experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, I understand that difficulties may arise regardless of one's age or phase of life. From life challenges to transition periods (e.g., changing careers, schools, relationships), to traumatic experiences, it can be difficult to make sense of our selves or our directions. I am proud to support clients from all walks of life (inclusive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, races, cultures, and relationship types) in achieving their own unique vision of success.

We all face difficult times in our lives. I believe, however, that we have the strength to meet these challenges head on, overcome our blocks, and ultimately benefit from these opportunities for growth. Of course, we may not always be able to see our way through these times on our own. A collaborative therapeutic relationship established in a safe and supportive environment can allow us to unlock the strength and resiliency we all carry within us.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Counsellors
Why might an individual want to see a therapist specialising in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialise in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.
When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counselling?
Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.
Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counselling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.
How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?
Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
