Are you new to counselling and therapy? Are you unsure of where to begin, feeling nervous, or perhaps even skeptical? Does it feel easier to be self-reliant, down-play your own needs while focusing on others, or just accept that you’ll always feel misunderstood? If so, therapy might feel like a big leap. We all learn to cope in ways that are completely understandable given life’s many challenges - if you are experiencing general anxiety,
grief
, or depression, or facing acute challenges in integrating back into a a post-pandemic world, or grappling with the realities of climate change, you do not have to go on this journey alone.

Our anxiety, stress and trauma can become manageable, and we don't feel so alone in our pain, fear,
grief
or despair.
We all need someone to talk to, to help us through difficult times. Whether we have overwhelming issues in the present, or traumas from our past, we need someone to help us make sense of them - and to stick with us through the hard emotions that come with them. As a relational psychotherapist I believe that to get through life, and live life to its fullest, we need to deeply talk with someone. We do not need judgement. We need understanding, compassion, and we need to know we matter.

I draw on both my professional experiences (supporting clients with experiences of
grief
, trauma, intergenerational trauma, and marginalization), and my personal lived experiences (as a brown, queer, neurodivergent, second generation immigrant).
We all come from vastly unique life experiences and identities, and there is no “one size fits all” way to heal and grow. I take an eclectic approach to therapy that is guided by my clients' individual needs. My practice is influenced by relational, narrative, experiential, and existential modalities, which I have a keen interest in integrating with creative and somatic techniques. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that values warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. I work through the lens of an intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed framework that centers you as the expert of your own experiences.

I invite all who're willing to come to the table with an open mind, ready to do the work. Hi I'm Nicole, a psychotherapist with over 14 years of counselling experience. It's an honour to wade with people into the love & fear, pain & beauty, messy & magic of life. Healing & self discovery can feel like contending with the vastness of space, so we will work together to move through the stars and build constellations of relations that sustain life and meaning. My approach is deeply relational, compassionate, creative, trauma & structurally informed. Where individual experiences aren't disconnect from movements in community, or struggles through colonialism, capitalism, or cis-heteropatriarchy.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
