I address all aspects of my clients' lives including friendships,
family
, culture and spirituality.
I work with adults who are feeling stressed: they may worry, panic or feel shy in social situations, may try to be perfect, may feel badly about themselves, or wish to express themselves more effectively, or to set clearer boundaries with others, or to be more assertive. I also work with people from the straight and LGBTQ communities who are experiencing challenges in their relationships, with sexuality, sexual orientation, alternative relationships, alternative sexualities, and gender. Many experience these challenges, but some may lose a sense of balance in their lives or the ability to enjoy life and relationships while trying to sort out their concerns.

I have several years of experience working with adolescents, young adults and families on challenges related to stress, anxiety, emotion regulation, relationship issues, grief, parenting,
family
conflict and life transitions. I offer a gentle, caring and compassionate approach. I believe in the relationship between therapist and client to help individuals to reflect, explore and grow in order to develop successful relationships outside of therapy. Together, we can make sense of thoughts and feelings and connect them to previous and current experiences to change unhelpful patterns so that you can be your best self.

Life can be very overwhelming, and often finding the right therapist can help us to cope with life's many challenges. I am a licensed therapist specializing in the fields of trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and
family
/relationship conflict. In the past, I volunteered as a crisis aid line worker, then as a psychotherapist in a community agency for 6 years where I was lucky enough to train for 1 year with a renowned psychiatrist who treats individuals who experienced trauma. 12 years ago, I began my private practice in psychotherapy and I truly love what I do. Sessions are offered virtually or by phone at this time.

I use an integrative approach with clients, with a basis in Internal
Family
Systems (IFS) therapy or 'parts work', a trauma-informed, mindfulness based modality, and I draw from somatic and behavioural interventions to invite change and acceptance in your life.
There are times in our lives that we cannot get a handle on the challenges in our life. Sometimes our genetics play a role, i.e. intergenerational traumas, and other times, life, and all its stressors gets overwhelming. For some, systemic barriers exist that impede a capacity for wellness. During these times, it is helpful to work with a trained therapist to support you as you find your way back to your healing, happiness and inner peace. Therapy is a process of growth, unlearning, and self-discovery. In my therapy sessions, I promote behavioral transformation and inner peace by encouraging curiosity, compassion and acceptance.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
