I draw from modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Therapy ( EFT ), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and somatic and attachment based theories.
All of us can be presented with hardship, pain and overwhelm - sometimes without warning. It is in these stressful moments that we may struggle to find the tools to cope. Confronted by life’s challenges, it can become difficult to see the path forward.

I am have been in the field of human development for the last twenty years, now focusing more on using evidence- based approaches in psychotherapy including EFIT ( Emotionally focused individual Therapy), MSC (Mindfulness Self Compassion, and EMDR, while examining the bigger pictures in life, meaning, purpose and agency.
Taking the first steps to see a therapist is one of the most courageous acts anyone can take. It's a step for the best and brightest. In my own life, it was one of the bravest and best decisions I ever made. I am not above you or below you. I am simply an agent of change that will be with you in this journey. I have limited space prioritized towards treating trauma. My area of focus are young adults, passionate about helping others and highly effective executives in positions of leadership and service to others. However, my 9 week classes where I teach mindful self-compassion more capacity and space to support your well-being.

My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy ( EFT ), and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Therapy offers the chance for a meaningful experience and connection, wherein you and I will work together to figure out the concerns that underly your current problems. Whether you find yourself faced with anxiety or you find that you don’t have the energy or motivation to face your daily struggle, I believe that we can work together to overcome. Often there are core issues that lead to many of the difficulties that we find overwhelming. Our goal is to uncover, understand, and begin to change these core issues. In having someone safe to talk to during this process, we can change the problematic patterns we find ourselves in.

I have 16 years experience with degrees in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work with training in CBT, EFT and DBT as well as advanced trainings in somatic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Too often in psychotherapy the focus is on coping strategies and rehearsing the narrative of our traumas with little movement forward towards our goals. This is frustrating for everyone and despite good intentions, time and finances clients remain stuck. Private Therapy Toronto is devoted to supporting those ready to move through and out of their current circumstances and into more dynamic and vibrant lives. To do so, we must expand beyond the limits of traditional psychotherapy and integrate neuroscience and metaphysical/spiritual practices to stimulate the self-healing properties within.

I use a variety of modalities backed by research such as ACT, attachment and trauma-informed work, CBT, DBT, EFT , Narrative, and somatic interventions.
Many folks come to me feeling overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected from their emotions or behaviours. They find themselves feeling triggered in relationships, or shy away from sharing their authentic selves with others. Some have significant struggles with their focus and can't consistently complete tasks they know are well within their abilities. When we don't know how or why this happens, a sense of powerlessness and shame creeps into our lives. Confronting these issues and changing these patterns is challenging, vulnerable, and worth it.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
