I work with clients using an emotion-focused, experiential approach called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). This innovative and evidence-based approach has been shown to lead to long-term change in a relatively short amount of time with a variety of issues such as: anxiety, depression , conflict in relationships at home or at work, difficulties forming attachments, medically unexplained symptoms or chronic pain, grief, stress or the after-effects of trauma. Clients often come to therapy feeling: "What I am going through is really tough, it is not getting better and the things I have tried haven’t worked."

I often work with anxiety, depression and issues with life transitions.
I believe we are all capable of improving our lives but many of us become "stuck" in the process due to self doubt, insecurity, lack of self esteem, past and/or present trauma, losses, etc. My approach is to work together to find the most appropriate solutions for these issues, or find comfort and acceptance with the challenges of life. With broader perspectives, or an alternative life choice, we increase our general well-being. I believe in practical solutions and appropriate perspectives, allowing all of us a better sense of comfort and competency in everyday life.

I have experience helping clients understand, address, and overcome the multitude of issues they encounter as result of trauma, anxiety, depression , domestic violence, or sexual assault.
I am a cisgender woman, with Mi’kmaw and Settler roots; as a result, the holistic therapy I provide is rooted in an anti-oppression approach. I was lucky enough to earn a Master of Social Work from the University of Buffalo. I chose that program because, unlike most other programs, it offered a specialty in utilizing a Trauma-Informed Focus. I was also trained in using EMDR. I have six years’ experience providing therapy; first in the USA and now in Canada. I’ve also provided services in community settings like the youth justice system and a community task force created to help deal with the human trafficking epidemic.

I work with people who, in spite of great difficulties, have not given up on finding meaning in their lives. I help them as they struggle with isolation, depression , anxiety, grief or early trauma. Some are trying their best to manage difficult relationships. Others are wondering about their orientation or identity--gendered, sexual, ethnic. Others still are planning the next meaningful transition in their lives.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Central Toronto, Toronto. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
