CBT
, DBT, and mindfulness are foundations of my approach.
Are you struggling with feelings of sadness and anxiety? Do you imagine what life would be like if you could just overcome self-doubt and uncertainty? Whatever the challenge may be, you’re here because it’s time to take charge, and have life work for you and not against you. Although obstacles may always be present, therapy can equip you with skills to be resilient in the face of hardship. I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy,
CBT

In our everyday life we may find ourselves going through difficult situations. In some of these circumstances we are able to directly influence what is happening, and in some we are simply called to face them with courage and resilience. We may also find we are repeating behavioural patterns that lead us to unwanted results. I provide an empathic space to process your experiences and find your way toward the freedom and changes you are seeking.

We will collaborate to draw on evidence-based techniques from psychodynamic, Adlerian,
Cognitive
-Behavioural, Attachment and Emotion-Focused therapies to and deepen the insight and the emotional experience you bring to your behaviour and relationships.
So often the ‘first step’ is the most difficult to take, but seeking out this profile means you’re halfway there. Knowing we need help, even thinking we know how to resolve a situation, it isn’t always enough. The work we do will address the gap between that knowing and actions that can start to make a difference for you. The qualities I try to cultivate in my work with clients— honesty, compassion, acceptance, and even (at times) humour— are the qualities that promote the kind of genuine connection that can support you in a process of growth and change that can gently help you to understand yourself and the path you’re on.

CBT
: By understanding the interconnectedness of our thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and by infiltrating the (often negative) automatic thoughts that drive the way we feel and behave,
CBT
offers a way to better understand your core beliefs; why they might exist, and how to identify, investigate and modify them.
Undisturb yourself! Using
CBT
, Existential, and Mindfulness forms of psychotherapy, I help clients (in-person/ telephone/ on-line) develop the tools in order that they think, act and feel better. Sometimes the realities of life understandably leave us susceptible to certain anxieties, despair and general existential concern. All too often we find ourselves developing unhelpful irrational thoughts and behaviours that can seem impossible to change. But they aren't. If you are interested in investigating and changing your assumptions and behaviours, if you want to modify the lens through which you view and experience the world, my therapeutic modality could be well suited to you.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario (catastrophizing) or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
