By incorporating elements of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy ( ACT ), Narrative Techniques, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and a healthy dose of humour, I seek to match your unique needs with a custom blend of tools & techniques to carry forward.
The focus of my work with clients seeks to answer three fundamental questions: (a) What direction do I want or need to shift my life towards? (b) What actions can I start taking to make this a reality? (c) What has or is blocking me from achieving this? Exploring these questions helps us understand if we are living in line with our values, how we view or treat ourselves, how we treat others, career ambitions, and overall lifestyle desires. The process of connecting with the parts of ourselves that influence our feelings, desires and ambitions can be elusive, fascinating, and deeply rewarding work.

There are times in our lives that we cannot get a handle on the challenges in our life. Sometimes our genetics play a role, i.e. intergenerational traumas, and other times, life, and all its stressors gets overwhelming. For some, systemic barriers exist that impede a capacity for wellness. During these times, it is helpful to work with a trained therapist to support you as you find your way back to your healing, happiness and inner peace. Therapy is a process of growth, unlearning, and self-discovery. In my therapy sessions, I promote behavioral transformation and inner peace by encouraging curiosity, compassion and acceptance .

I use a variety of modalities backed by research such as ACT , attachment and trauma-informed work, CBT, DBT, EFT, Narrative, and somatic interventions.
Many folks come to me feeling overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected from their emotions or behaviours. They find themselves feeling triggered in relationships, or shy away from sharing their authentic selves with others. Some have significant struggles with their focus and can't consistently complete tasks they know are well within their abilities. When we don't know how or why this happens, a sense of powerlessness and shame creeps into our lives. Confronting these issues and changing these patterns is challenging, vulnerable, and worth it.

Talk therapy will be approached from an existential-humanistic lens to support acceptance and change.
Are you afraid of feeling judged or misunderstood? My lived experience with addiction and mental health disorders brings a sense of allyship within the therapeutic setting. I believe that addiction is not the problem, instead, the problem is the problem. We will work together to understand the deeper challenges causing situational distress which can often result in maladaptive behaviours. Addiction can be in the form of substance use; or addiction to people, places or things. In addition to working privately, I provide psychotherapy for Addiction Rehab Toronto.

I look forward to walking alongside you as you embark on your journey of self-exploration and acceptance !.
Self-discovery is a process fundamental to personal growth, and one that takes courage. My role as a therapist is to guide you in your process of developing self-awareness, which is the catalyst for change. Through self-awareness, we develop our understanding of the way we think, feel, and behave. We gain clarity on our triggers, the influence of our past, and our traumas. Ultimately, through self-awareness, we can curiously - and without judgment - determine our strengths, what we accept about ourselves, and what we desire to change.

I work from a CBT framework infused with a mindfulness perspective, but also incorporate Acceptance -and-Commitment, Internal Family Systems and Brief Therapy frameworks.
Sorry, NO longer accepting new clients; currently inactive. We're all on a journey to become our best selves... but most of us can't accomplish that alone. Therapy helps people who are stuck in their suffering break through to more satisfying ways of being and ways of relating to others. I can help you develop greater mastery in addressing a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem and shame, stress, grief/bereavement, relationship dissatisfaction, sexual identity, substance use, and lack of purpose or meaning in life.

There are times in life when events or experiences overwhelm our ability to cope, and it is a courageous act to seek out help and support. I believe therapy should be a collaborative and creative process between client and therapist that involves all aspects of oneself, so that wellness can be experienced in an integrated and sustainable way. Working in the field of holistic wellness for the past seven years, with a specific emphasis on mental health and trauma-informed practices, I am committed to creating supportive spaces for individuals to deepen their relationship with themselves and expand their capacity to engage with life.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
