I have specialized in anxiety, depression and poor self esteem for 35 years, My theory base is analytical ( psychodynamic ), evidence based with excellent LONG TERM results.
Most of my clients have one parent who is self-centered. That has led me to specialize in ADULT CHILDREN OF NARCISSISTS. Areas of self-esteem that are affected are, not feeling lovable, taking care of others but not yourself, feeling you are bad, to blame, selfish, a bother etc. As a child of a narcissist I know how you feel and it is not good.. My work does not focus only on how to cope better, but how to get rid of the problem. An example is ANXIETY. Anxiety is often an UNCONSCIOUS response to feeling, old hurtful feelings, like HELPLESS, HUMILIATED (bullied), and ABANDONED. In healing these feelings you become less anxious.

I use a variety of approaches, including but not limited to Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Relational Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Practices, ACT, and Solution-Focused Approach.
Asking for help is a sign of strength. If you are looking for guidance with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and PTSD or have been a victim of narcissistic abuse, it takes courage to ask for help. Admitting you can’t do everything alone is the first step toward achieving wellness in a fast-paced, demanding world. Therapy can enable you to delve deeper through inner child work and reparenting yourself to heal your trauma wounds and move forward. Asking for help and obtaining a fresh perspective of your past is the first and most profound step toward developing the mental muscle needed to attain emotional and mental strength.

I draw from Psychodynamic Therapy to explore your past, relationships, and defense mechanisms that you have adopted over the years.
Whether you are struggling with addiction, stress, chronic pain, or depression, I can help. Although these four issues may seem separate, there is a lot of overlap and chances are that if you are experiencing one of these issues, you are experiencing at least two others, where they feed off each other. My holistic approach takes into account your life as a whole. I believe in long-term recovery, so I aim to treat and heal root causes rather than symptoms alone. I also help to create sustainable and supportive structures in your life that you can lean on during hard times.

Mindfulness based psychotherapy is a powerful approach to healing that is based on the ancient wisdom of how to work with our own minds. Mindfulness is defined by paying attention, with intention, in the present moment, without judgment. Clients who practice mindfulness skills share that their lives are more positive, they have an enhanced sense of well-being and better relationships all around. In Mindfulness Psychotherapy, I work with clients to support their development of moment-by-moment awareness by teaching a variety of skills and techniques, which will aid in their development.

The recognition that a mind-body connection plays an important role in suffering from physical symptoms, including pain, has been given many names: tension myositis syndrome (TMS), mind-body syndrome, medically unexplained symptoms, somatization, psychosomatic illness, and psychophysiological disorder, to name a few. We offer effective treatment for chronic pain, TMS, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fibromyalgia, chronic headaches, pelvic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, sexual dysfunctions, anxiety and depression.

Welcome. Working with a therapist provides the opportunity to explore the things that truly matter to you. Through uncovering the stumbling blocks and triggers that prevent you from being the best version of yourself, we will collaborate together to create self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance - while determining new avenues to accomplish tangible goals that align with your values. Giving consideration to the 'whole' you is an integral part of the therapeutic process – including those aspects that are painful and deeply imbedded, as well as your strengths, resources and aspirations.

People-pleaser, perfectionist, caretaker, rescuer, fixer… We all have defenses that help us move through life. There comes a time, however, when one or more of our defenses doesn’t work for us any longer. This is when therapy can help. Perhaps you are going through or considering a major life transition (relationship, career, lifestyle) but old defenses, beliefs and patterns are getting in the way. You want to trust your choices, but don’t know if you can. All you know is that it’s not possible to go forward the same way. Something needs to change.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
