Hi there! My name is Caitlan Stransky, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who is passionate about providing support to youth and adults who are feeling stuck or emotionally wounded. While I recognize how frightening it can be to open up to someone new, my personal experiences have taught me that the more we talk about our vulnerabilities and struggles, the less overwhelming and scary they become. My primary goal as a psychotherapist is therefore to create a safe and supportive environment for people to feel accepted just as they are, while allowing them to explore new and meaningful ways to grow.

Life after trauma can be hard. really hard. You never quite go back to feeling like yourself again. I understand firsthand how terrifying and isolating it can be to experience heart palpitations, racing thoughts, numbness, shortness of breath, cold sweats and panic. I know because I have been there too. It was been my personal journey of healing that ultimately led me to become a therapist. I want you to know that while the journey may not be easy, there is so much hope. You can regain control over your life and your symptoms.

In modern life, we often find ourselves overwhelmed; juggling multiple roles yet feeling like something is missing. Life's difficulties can pull us in many directions, and it's not uncommon to be burdened with this sense of emptiness. I'm here to help put those pieces back together, and seek unity within yourself. Whether it is something concrete, like a difficult emotion or behavior, or something abstract, like having a life that feels meaningful. Whatever your journey entails, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

We often tend to imagine a life without obstacles. What happens when we think this way and then suddenly problems arise? We may experience stress, anxiety and sometimes even depression. The reality is that we can't avoid the turmoil of life throughout our lives. We must therefore arm ourselves with courage and tools to overcome and accept them without destroying our fragile balance.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
