Sometimes in life we can feel vulnerable and alone; have symptoms of depression and anxiety; times of grief and changes in our life. These are opportunities for counselling and therapy, support and growth. Taking the chance to trust in a professional and discuss these matters privately has been a best practise for many individuals. I have been honoured to participate in many life changes for clients throughout my 20 + year career as a Social Worker in Lambton, Middlesex and Elgin Counties, London, Strathroy and St.Thomas.

Anxiety & trauma have convinced you everything is your fault. You're constantly telling yourself to do better, that if you just try a little harder, things will finally change. This most often shows up in your relationships: you never, EVER feel good enough. Maybe your partner, kids or parents reinforce that idea. You feel defeated because you think maybe they're right. Yet a part of you thinks maybe they're wrong. That tiny part of YOU is ready for change; to dig deep, figure out who TF you are & become the best, most self-assured person possible. It's terrifying & exhilarating. I want to be right there with you.

Maybe you have carried the weight of trauma for years, memories that linger, patterns that repeat, or a constant sense of being “on alert.” You might feel disconnected from your true self, struggling with shame, grief, or exhaustion. Trauma can impact your mind, body, and relationships in ways that feel invisible to others but overwhelming to you. You deserve relief. And you deserve support that honours your story.

I work with couples who feel distant, stuck in the same arguments, or unsure how to reconnect. I also work with individuals, many of them men, who feel the weight of pressure and responsibility while carrying anxiety, stress, or a sense that something is not quite right. Often, people come in feeling emotionally worn down and disconnected from the life or relationships they want. In our work, we slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and develop practical ways to move forward that fit your real day-to-day life.

I hold a specialized degree in Thanatology, the study of death, loss, grief, and bereavement. Over time, I’ve come to understand that grief extends far beyond the loss of a loved one—it can emerge through life transitions, identity shifts, relationship changes, and the countless moments that challenge our sense of stability and self. My practice is rooted in compassion, connection, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story. I use a holistic, trauma-informed approach integrating the mind, body, and soul. I believe that growth and transformation occur when we feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Living with OCD or intrusive thoughts can feel exhausting and isolating. You may find your mind stuck in loops of worry, doubt, or unwanted thoughts that are hard to quiet. You might feel driven to repeat behaviours, mentally review situations, or seek reassurance just to get a moment of relief. Over time, this cycle can feel overwhelming and hard to escape. Many people I work with also navigate anxiety, trauma, grief, or stress alongside OCD. What they’re often looking for is a sense of calm, more control over their thoughts, and the ability to feel like themselves again. You don’t have to manage this on your own.

Divorce Counsellors
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
