Life can be challenging at times. It is often stressful and confusing - making us question ourselves. Being able to discuss, brainstorm and navigate these challenges with a trusted outside observer can help clarify and stabilize us during times of tumult. Mental Health – including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout and other ailments affects us all to varying degrees. Being able to define and pinpoint the root causes of these issues is critically important to finding solutions that can alleviate these burdens. I provide a safe, effective therapeutic environment where we can work together to explore these feelings.

Each time you feel let down, disappointed, discouraged or despondent it’s not permanent.  There’s another breath of air where you can exhale that feeling, shake out your body and know that you have another chance to heal, to grow and to transform.  Even after the same mistakes or misgivings, you are not the same. You’ve learned something. You’re not the same person each time you get caught doing the same thing over again.  It’s okay to be learning. Growth is painful as we let go of the old ways of being, the old destructive thoughts and allow new ways of being to take root.

The ripple effect of addiction and mental health issues can hold us hostage, interfering in our ability to live fulfilling lives and develop meaningful connections with others. Many harbour a sense of shame reflective of stigma which serves to silence and with that dismiss both the severity and prevalence. It is common to have developed and maintained coping mechanisms that no longer serve a purpose yet have become habitual and with that familiar. Therapy is a place where thoughts and feelings are explored, validated, and with that normalized. Healing occurs through self-discovery and the sense of empowerment that accompanies this.

The world is full of lonely people…In life, we take many paths. Some paths are smooth, while some might be rough and challenging. Sometimes, on a particularly difficult path, we can lose sight of our goals, loved ones, and the connection to our inner selves. On the surface, it may feel like we do not have the strength to get through these hardships. But I believe that we can find it within ourselves to forge new pathways towards happiness. Therapy is empowering! By working through emotions, thoughts, and feelings, you can grow into the person you want to be, and achieve your full potential.

As a culturally responsive and trauma-informed clinician, I'm dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and improving access to support. I believe that feeling 'Safe and Accepted' is essential to the core of our existence and relationships. When we are neglected or ignored, it can lead to vulnerable emotions such as guilt, shame, anger and loneliness. Bottling up these feelings not only strains our belief system but also results in a sense of disconnection from ourselves, others, and society. Sue Monk Kidd said, "Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die we can't remember who we are or why we are here."

I specialize in providing confidential, culturally safe, and trauma-informed care. My journey has been shaped by overcoming significant personal challenges, including the long-term impacts of being a child of the Sixties Scoop and the intergenerational trauma passed down through Indian Residential Schools. These experiences have not only shaped my identity but have also fueled my dedication to supporting others through their own healing journeys.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
