I have training and experience in working with trauma, grief, mental health concerns, suicidality, body image, relationships, sex and sexuality, and neurodivergent folks.
Hello! I’m glad you’re here. I'm Carly the art therapist and I work in-person and online with adults, teens and kids in Ontario. I provide a warm and compassionate therapeutic environment with talk and art therapy. In my sessions, you do not have to do art, and you do not have to talk; you can do both or neither if you want to. You do not need to be an artist or "talented" in order to benefit from art therapy. I take a genuine and transparent approach to therapy. If you are a little nervous, shy, quiet or loud, I'm here for you. You can be who you are.

As a culturally responsive and trauma-informed clinician, I'm dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and improving access to support. I believe that feeling 'Safe and Accepted' is essential to the core of our existence and relationships. When we are neglected or ignored, it can lead to vulnerable emotions such as guilt, shame, anger and loneliness. Bottling up these feelings not only strains our belief system but also results in a sense of disconnection from ourselves, others, and society. Sue Monk Kidd said, "Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die we can't remember who we are or why we are here."

I am the owner and operator of Margarita Rabinovich & Associates. I believe that most of us decide to seek help through psychotherapy when we have painful feelings or destructive impulses that cause difficulties in our lives and the lives of others we care for or love. Most individuals are affected by periods of discouragement and hopelessness, feeling disconnected, numb, distressed, unable to function or anxious. You are not alone. Many mental health disorders can be episodic and often is a response to a way of life that does not align with our more profound sense of meaning and authenticity or to unexamined early traumas.

I invite you to journey with me in spirit, and to discover through your period of great stress, grief, or circumstantial turmoil, inner strength that you never knew existed, and just what you are 'really made of'.
It is my firm belief that everyone deserves someone to talk to, and to pour out what has been long kept in their heart, body, mind, spirit, and soul. It is with that belief, that I offer my skills, and trained ear as a counselor, in order to help you navigate through this situation that you are finding yourself going through. You are never alone. Although it may feel like this at this very moment, you are stronger than you think that you are. Real strength, in my opinion, is being able to be vulnerable, being able to disclose a hidden problem or area of great pain, and to deal with this 'head on', and with someone who can help you.

Do you find yourself overwhelmed by change, unsure how to support yourself - or your child - through it, no matter what you try? You’re someone who cares deeply about others whether you’re managing your own life transitions, supporting a child through emotional challenges, or balancing the demands of caregiving, but still find yourself feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to move forward. You may feel like you're doing all the right things, but the anxiety lingers, the uncertainty builds, and you begin to worry about your ability to cope. You might feel exhausted, stuck, or like you're carrying it all alone.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
