One might be looking for therapy to gain deeper insight into themselves and perhaps to safely and kindly unpack hardship and vulnerability. Social Work Psychotherapy, can provide insight into the internal world (emotional, psychological, physcial, spiritual, mental "self") and how the internal world has been influenced and shaped by the external world (family, friends, society). At times we can be in search for making sense of ourselves, and our journey - and perhaps to be ready to address difficulties and tenderness.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), family, and marital, treatment approaches, tempered by over 40 years of experience, are tailored to your needs in a manner that focuses on your concerns and helps meet your goals.
My patients come to me because they struggle or are distressed. They struggle to find meaningful solutions to problems in their life or the life of their child. Included are stress or trauma, learning and school-related concerns, depression, anxiety, coping, and relationship problems. The distress people experience is often compound by the fact that my patients are usually competent in several aspects of life, but have yet to find a way through the current difficulty. Treatment often combines one's competence with therapy to resolve or at least help manage the challenges a person faces.

To nurture clients' bounce-back from trauma or help couples stuck in conflict, I draw upon my clinical training and lived experience.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I use body-based Somatic practices. Young adults struggling with increasing independence, or couples establishing boundaries are areas we can address together. Supporting difficult transitions has been core to my career, whether helping incarcerated youth set a new life path or leadership teams launching organizational change.

I support individuals and couples (monogamous or otherwise) in navigating life with compassion and curiosity via a blend of Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy, Attachment Theory, feminist therapy, and trauma-informed and anti-oppressive care.
The pressures are endless: family issues passed down generations, demanding jobs or school, painful relationship dynamics, systemic oppression, and the constant pressure to hold it all together. Not to mention all the things they lead to: guilt, shame, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, burnout, panic attacks, overthinking, disconnection from your body, people-pleasing, loneliness, perfectionism, low self-worth, or feeling lost and hopeless. People come to me believing they're broken- you’re not. You're just reacting to an overwhelming world. Healing starts when you don’t have to do it alone.

I love working with couples and individuals who need a different framework because their current model of the world isn't working anymore.
As a veteran firefighter, fire department chaplain, psychotherapist, and professional speaker, I work with those who need to renovate, recover, or strategically manage their life in a way that works. I am keenly interested in helping bosses and employees manage their work life. Oh, I live with Mild Autism, some notice I am quirky, blunt, and direct.

I provide therapy to adults, seniors and couples in a safe and judgement-free space.
I am passionate in working with BIPOC and 2S+LGBTQIA people. I am a strong believer in that systemic oppression correlates with trauma. You better believe I will not call you resilient for surviving trauma due to your race, class, gender, and sexuality. I will place accountability where it is due and help you transform into the person you are wanting to be.

June 2026 - You're a woman in your 20's or 30's with ADHD and/or anxiety. You have difficulty regulating big emotions, have a really hard time saying "no", or saying what you truly mean. You're exhausted from putting on a "mask" to get through each day, being a chameleon in order to not let anybody down. You have a hard time making decisions, and feel like your body is stuck in fight-or-flight. You've tried all the things - exercise, meditation, affirmations, daily planners - but nothing seems to help. It's starting to impact your most important relationships - be it romantically, with family, friends, school or work

FAQ - Marriage Counselling
What issues does marriage counselling help with?
Marriage counselling can address common relationship concerns, including ongoing conflict, communication challenges, emotional distance, or difficulty making decisions together. It may also be helpful for couples who are not currently experiencing major problems but want to prepare for future life changes. For more specific concerns affecting one individual in the relationship, such as trauma, depression, or significant substance use concerns, individual therapy may be more appropriate than marriage counselling.

When is the right time to start marriage counselling?
There is no single “right” time to start marriage counselling, but certain signs may suggest that counselling could be helpful. For example, a couple may benefit from counselling if many conversations end in conflict, if negative interactions are becoming more frequent, or if relationship stress is affecting other areas of life, such as sleep, work, parenting, or friendships. Some couples also seek counselling proactively. Premarital counselling, for instance, allows couples to discuss communication styles, finances, family dynamics, and future goals before getting married. Other couples may start counselling before a major life change, such as becoming parents, relocating, or navigating a stressful career transition.

Is marriage counselling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Marriage counselling may still help even if one partner is more hesitant to attend, as long as both people are ultimately willing to participate in sessions. Once counselling is underway, the more hesitant partner may become more open to sessions that can strengthen the relationship and build coping skills and communication strategies. If one partner refuses to attend, individual therapy may still help the other partner understand their needs, set boundaries, and decide how to approach the relationship.

Is online marriage counselling as effective as in-person?
There are differing opinions on the best format for marriage counselling. While some studies show that online marriage counselling can be as effective as in-person counselling, some argue that in-person counselling is more effective because it allows the therapist to better pick up on context and body language cues. In addition, in-person counselling may be a better fit for couples who are working through high-conflict issues. Ultimately, the “best” format depends on the couple’s specific needs and concerns.

What is faith-based marriage counselling and how is it different?
Faith-based marriage counselling incorporates a couple’s religious or spiritual beliefs into counselling. It may be a good fit for couples who want to discuss their relationship, values, and marriage within the context of their faith. For example, Christian marriage counselling may appeal to couples who want a counsellor familiar with Christian beliefs about marriage. Other forms of faith-based counselling may incorporate Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or other religious perspectives into sessions.

How much does marriage counselling cost and is it covered by insurance?
Marriage counselling often costs CAD $150 to $250 or more per session, depending on location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Many clients pay out of pocket, although some private or employer-sponsored extended health benefits may cover part of the cost. Lower-cost options may be available through sliding scale fees, which adjust the cost of counselling based on your income or financial circumstances, and community clinics, which may offer reduced-cost services through nonprofit organizations or publicly funded programs.
