In a time of so much illness, injustice, and natural, social and political upheaval, how do you find meaning in life, and in your life? Can you create meaning out of the unwanted, the new, or the unknown, as in the time after Covid? Or do you face all too familiar patterns: recent or long-term health issues or diagnoses; employment challenges or family conflict; effects from trauma, dislocation, or isolation; core or changing identity issues; aging, end of life, loss or bereavement ? Are you providing care for others through your work or for your own family? What is the story of your life, and what will you now make of it?

I have treated clients dealing with relationship difficulties, family conflict, grief , loss , impacts of trauma, sense of self (identity, self esteem, belonging, confidence), and other issues.
I am a registered psychotherapist with 15+ years of clinical experience. In therapy, I support my clients by providing a safe space to explore issues, better understand where they are coming from and making the changes they want to. Whether you're struggling with a life change, relationship concerns, current stressors, or issues from the past, this is a space where you can explore feelings, gain perspective, connection and support. My style as a therapist is warm, open and accepting. I practice from a strengths based, trauma informed framework and use a psychodynamic lens to better understand the root of the problem.

I have learned and worked with people addressing cultural identity, oppression, violence, refugees, victims of torture, children and youth, Indigenous issues, trauma, grief and loss .
It takes courage to initiate counseling and therapy. Working with the mind and our thought processes takes curiosity, patience, and understanding. However, it is so important to not only address our thought processes but to also look at the environments we were in that helped shape the way we see ourselves. Our experiences, relationships, and connections impact our overall well being. I take great pride in you sharing that process with me so that you can achieve learning, healing, growing, and a sense of self-acceptance and love. I too have done this personal work and understand the challenges it brings but also the rewards.

Therapy is unique to each individual, and I use a strengths-based and narrative approach to highlight the importance of who you are! I specialize in grief , depression, stress, anxiety, and life transitions while incorporating various modalities of therapy such as evidence-based CBT, EFT, and psychodynamic approaches.
The experiences and challenges that we go through in life do not define us, but instead shape us to be the individuals that we are today; These experiences help us to flourish and grow in ways that we could not imagine for ourselves. This is a philosophy that I hold in great regard when it comes to my practice and work with clients. I recognize that therapy can be intimidating to some. However, I am passionate about creating a space where we can come together and work through whatever it is you’re going through, no matter what it may look like.

I work with people who experience all types of issues: depression, anxiety, grief , burnout, identity issues, family issues and more, no issue is too big.
What can I say here? For some people, everything in life fell in line exactly how they hoped it would. For most of us though, things happened along the way that irrevocably transformed the kind of person we were meant to be. While we can never go back, we can work together to understand what happened, how you're feeling now, and how we can make you feel better. I know how hard it can be to take that first step, but I'm here for you when you're ready. I believe in the principle that people don't "fixing," they need understanding, support and compassion.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
