I am passionate about the process of holistic healing. After completing a BA in Psychology, I spent 12 years in the field learning about people from various populations including disabilities, mental health, dual-diagnosis, acculturation, concurrent disorders, foster care, and justice involvement. I developed a preference to support and walk alongside people through their journey, completing a Masters in Social Work in 2021. My work experiences have included the school board, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Public Health.

In a time of so much illness, injustice, and natural, social and political upheaval, how do you find meaning in life, and in your life? Can you create meaning out of the unwanted, the new, or the unknown, as in the time after Covid? Or do you face all too familiar patterns: recent or long-term health issues or diagnoses; employment challenges or family conflict; effects from trauma, dislocation, or isolation; core or changing identity issues; aging, end of life, loss or bereavement? Are you providing care for others through your work or for your own family? What is the story of your life, and what will you now make of it?

I am a dedicated social worker and therapist who specializes in the mental and emotional health of racialized communities, and has expertise working with Black African Diaspora boys and men. I have a strong commitment to helping people heal through trauma, including African and Indigenous-centered understandings of healing and people of colour whose mental health has been greatly harmed by the effects of colonialism and subsequent marginalization, war, violence and poverty. I help clients heal the mind, an entity that can be so easily damaged by distressing experiences, while fostering an interconnection between mind, body and soul.

Do you feel anxious and alone these days? Does it feel like no one is listening to you? Perhaps you've always been a little nervous, but were able to cope without any trouble. Now things have changed it's not easy to do your job or live without wondering what others will think. You want to do more living and spend less time being in your own head, and you've discovered this isn't easy to talk about. You don't want to burden your friends, and would they understand anyway? Still, this is impacting your life, your health and your relationship. Right now you probably don't talk about this with anybody. I can help.

I help second-generation immigrants move out of survival mode and break generational cycles for good, so that they can speak their truth, live authentically and find peace in the present. As a child of immigrant parents, you probably have to straddle two worlds and navigate family and cultural expectations that weigh heavily on you. There's a way to break generational cycles so that you're respecting your family and being true to yourself by speaking up.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
