I help older adults and their essential caregivers manage the complexities of aging. My goal is to guide your journey towards more joy. Aging is not for the faint of heart. The aging body is not always cooperative. Post retirement can be a challenge as society defines us by what we do. Clients ask: Do I still matter? There can be multiple losses: family and friends, your driver's licence, functional losses, your sense of independence. Last but not least, ageing is a time for reflection: your legacy, meaning-making, regrets, letting-go, and finding a sense of inner peace.

I have had the honour of working with youth, older adults , those living with the challenges of addiction and major mental illness among other challenges.
Throughout life's journey we all face challenges of some sort. We all have our own stories and experiences that contribute to who we are and how we face adversity. When those difficulties feel like they are too overwhelming to manage, its OK to reach out for help. Whether you are feeling like life is too much, dealing with addictions issues, or are challenged with a diagnosis of a mental illness. Every person that I have the honour of traveling with on their journey has the ability to face the struggles ahead of them.

My clinical work has mostly been with adolescents and adults .
I am a registered psychotherapist with 15+ years of clinical experience. In therapy, I support my clients by providing a safe space to explore issues, better understand where they are coming from and making the changes they want to. Whether you're struggling with a life change, relationship concerns, current stressors, or issues from the past, this is a space where you can explore feelings, gain perspective, connection and support. My style as a therapist is warm, open and accepting. I practice from a strengths based, trauma informed framework and use a psychodynamic lens to better understand the root of the problem.

I help adults and adolescents not only manage feelings and symptoms, but more importantly, get to the root of and heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, fear, and negative self-talk that is detrimental to our self-esteem.
Taking the first step toward self-care and healing can be intimidating! I understand, empathize, and welcome you to share your story within a safe, accepting, and non-judgemental space. Each person is an expert in the story of their own lives – no one knows you better than you know yourself. My role is to help facilitate change, promote positive growth, and foster healing. Using integrative approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the tools of mindfulness, I help adults and adolescents move past stuck feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I provide trauma-informed therapy to adolescents and adults .
I do not believe people come to therapy because they are "ill" or there is anything "wrong" with them. Instead, I think we all have a natural drive towards self-understanding and personal growth. Some people seek my help because they feel flooded or stuck in painful emotions or unsatisfying relationships. Others have developed ways of coping with unbearable pain that lead to additional problems and suffering, such as impulsive, risky, or addictive behaviours. Sometimes, it is past trauma that needs to be explored and re-processed so these experiences do not continue to negatively affect the person's sense of self and relationships.

How can I find a therapist in Scarborough?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
