Most of the people you know would say you seem fine. But really, you feel like you're just going through the motions. You put on a smile when you actually feel sad, numb, hopeless, angry, overwhelmed or all of the above. Feelings of fear, shame and guilt guide your choices. You've lost interest in things you used to enjoy and find yourself preferring to stay home. Maybe you've started having anxiety and panic attacks. Now you can't even sleep well and have started to engage in self destructive thoughts and behaviours. You just don’t feel like yourself.

Are you looking to set yourself apart from the competition? Have you been spending time on developing the physical and technical aspects of your game but still feel like there is room for growth? There are so many different layers to becoming a high performing athlete and one that is often overlooked is the mental aspect. Much of the development offered to athletes focuses on the neck down, however, our brains are the central processing unit controlling the functioning of our whole body.

Welcome. I work from a person-centred perspective that affirms your dignity, strengths and uniqueness. I provide a private space for you to share your innermost self and life experiences, knowing that you will be heard and understood. My approach is firmly rooted in Jungian depth psychology and also integrates other branches of psychology according to your needs. From this perspective, life's crises are opportunities for personal development and growth. Therapy is a creative and unfolding process of self-discovery that seeks meaning and purpose while working through the challenges that are inherent in our shared human experience.

Relationships are hard, and as men we do not always know how to effectively work through turbulence. Sometimes, we can act in ways that push others away. Other times, we can get pushed away for seemingly no rhyme or reason. In both situations it can feel impossible to find peace, whether that means working towards mending the relationship, or in some circumstances learning how to let go. These complex situations consume a great deal of our time, and can leave us feeling sad, anxious, angry, and not like ourselves. Together, we can build healthy and satisfying relationships and get you back to feeling like YOU.

Therapy uses many aspects of ourselves in order to find the wisdom to come back home to our physical bodies. While meditation is the personal journey inwards – therapy is the relational experience to bring you back in touch with your environment, to see what is stuck and what has to die in order to find the song of who you truly are. With compassion, we will explore through many experiences of embodiment, roleplay, dreams, symbols and dialogue so that through those awarenesses that emerge, you will have opportunity to see your life and relationships differently, allowing you to make empowered choices.

How can I find a therapist in Saint Catharines?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
