I have successfully worked in private practice for many years, working with individuals, couples, families and children providing counselling on a wide variety of issues.
Clients state that they like my direct and practical approach. They feel that I become a part of their life team and will often return for further guidance years later. The fact that most of my practice is generated by word of mouth referrals, is indicative of the confidence my clients have in me. Check me out www.DrElayneTanner.com

Change, whether chosen or imposed, can be one of the most challenging of life's gifts. Working as a Therapist in the addiction and mental health field for more than 25 years has allowed me the privilege of working with individuals who, like me, face some difficulties that are seemingly too complex to work out on their own. Finding the right person to explore such sensitive and personal issues is no easy feat which is why providing an authentic and judgement-free space is at the heart of my therapy practice. I am currently holding a waitlist for in-person sessions but am accepting new clients for online therapy!

I'm highly trained in established approaches: Attachment Theory, Parts Work (IFS, Inner Child Work), Couple's Healing (EFT, RLT, IMAGO).
Life can be unpredictable. We can lose balance / feel hurt / confused / misunderstood. Our “people” aren’t always there when we reach out. Additionally, some of us seek “connection” to de-stress & some want to “be alone.” These differences can lead to feeling abandoned or overwhelmed. Therapy offers tools to foster connection, resilience & self-awareness. Therapy helps get clear & gain intimacy with ourself & others. Our problems aren’t always solved just by talking. Is it your 1st time in therapy? You can still feel safe & productive. Check out my articles published in Psychology Today & call for a no obligation consult.

I work with individuals and couples who are seeking a fulfilling life, and connected relationships.
Hi - Thanks for stopping in on my page. Whether you are new to the world of therapy or this is simply the latest round of seeking out help, I would be glad to have a conversation with you, see if we are a good fit to work together, and get started with the process of healing. We all have our challenges; personal, relational or everything at once. It’s natural that these things wear us down over time. The discomfort you feel matters and these problems are worth attention. I want to walk through your challenges with you, helping to clarify what you want and empowering you to make decisions that fit with who you are.

Living a full and satisfying life is never easy, and can oftentimes be lonely and overwhelming. Nobody can or should “go it alone.” You may want to grow, learn, or tackle obstacles in your path. Or perhaps you simply want to relax and be heard. Regardless, you have come to a good place. My goal as a therapist and human being is to accompany you on your personal journey, supporting you in the ways you want, helping you realize who you might want to be, and providing you with tools/strategies to help you in a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment.

Life can feel heavy at times, especially when you’re feeling anxious, struggling with low mood, dealing with past experiences, or moving through change. You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what you need right now. Many people come to therapy simply wanting a space where they can be themselves, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what they’re carrying.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
