I employ common sense strategies that allow my clients to implement new ways of seeing the world in a positive light. I'll tell you that the most powerful tool on earth is the human mind but nobody ever gave us the operations manual. I see myself as a mechanic of sorts, offering information from the minds operational handbook, allowing you to switch off the auto pilot and switch on your self determination to overcome adversity and accomplish more. And for what it's worth, I won't shy away from politically incorrect responses. The world can be harsh and I won't sugar coat it unless it's necessary to protect you from imminent harm.

I help people struggling with addiction and substance use find clarity, direction, and relief.
Accepting New Clients! You didn’t plan for things to get this hard. Maybe using started as a way to cope, unwind, or escape—but now it’s interfering with your life, your relationships, or how you feel about yourself. You might be stuck in a cycle of shame, secrecy, or frustration, wondering how things got here and how to stop. Whether you’re thinking about cutting back or ready to make a big change, it can feel overwhelming. If substances are taking up more space than you want them to, therapy can be a space to figure out your next move—without judgment or pressure.

I am passionate about supporting adults who struggle with ADHD, substance use disorders and other addiction, anger and personality disorders (such as Borderline Personality Disorder).
Many of us have become masters in pretending that things are fine, when in reality our lives seem to be falling apart. Inside we feel like we’re drowning: overwhelmed by emotion, lost, & hopeless as we try to carry the burden of unresolved trauma, pain, & life’s curveballs hurled our way. Pushing aside these problems to get through each day to manage life’s responsibilities, we find ourselves numb, depressed, anxious, self-medicating, isolating, angry, & struggling with relationships. Together, we can work towards confronting unhealthy behaviours, understanding emotions, & healing from past trauma to create transformational change.

Currently, I work with children and teens who find it hard to self-regulate and manage big feelings (anger, anxiety, BPD, ADHD), with LGBTQ+ teens and adults experiencing transitions related to gender or sexual orientation, and with adults with mood disorders (anxiety, depression) who want to make changes with their drinking or substance use.
Are you or your child having a difficult time managing overwhelming feelings? Are there parts of yourself that prevent you from feeling open and safe with others? Imagine if you didn’t have to grapple with these challenges alone. In my practice, I help clients work towards becoming their authentic selves, and provide skill-based support to get the most out of life. Holding a Bachelors and Masters degree in social work, I use a combination of play-based therapy, CBT, and DBT to support clients. I’ve been working with children, youth, and families for the past 10 years, in English and French.

I work effectively and comfortably with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, substance use and addiction, and general life stressors including transitions, grief and relationship breakdowns.
I am able to help clients identify core issues, and provide information and treatment to feel better. I tend to be more solution focused - replacing unhealthy coping strategies with positive and effective ones. I work with concrete goals to be able to evaluate your treatment plan, and more abstract outcomes like building self esteem, and reducing self hate.

Substance Use Counsellors

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
