The path to becoming your best self is not easy. It requires work and dedication. But it's rewarding. I want to remind you that the journey is just as important as the destination, and for you, the healing can begin right now. I offer a safe and secure physical and virtual space for us to work through your life up to now. Together we identify themes that contribute to maladaptive patterns of thought and behaviour. Through an integrative approach to therapy we unpack past traumas and connect core beliefs. We become acquainted or reacquainted with your truest self and we begin laying the bricks towards living a more congruent life.

Through developing
mindfulness
, self-compassion, and creating new meanings from experiences stressors can be managed more skillfully.
Do you feel ...overwhelmed? ...numb? ...stressed? ...anxious? ...depressed? ...angry? ...hopeless? ...ashamed? ...lost? ...haunted by the past? ...alone? At times we can become stuck in these painful emotions, and we desperately wish to avoid them. We temporarily block them or distract ourselves only for them to return with a vengeance. Instead, when we turn towards them to hear and heal what is underneath, the painful emotions can be truly transformed. In this way, we can use emotions as a guide and overcome the obstacles in reaching our full potential.

Among the many techniques I offer, some include CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), play-based therapy, solutions-focused therapy, and
mindfulness

Parenting is no small feat. While we love our children and are doing our best, parenting can be challenging and exhausting and sometimes, we can feel like we are failing. If you feel this way and wish you could do something to support your child (or yourself!) differently, you are not alone; these feelings are normal, and change is possible. As a primary school educator for over twenty years before pursuing psychotherapy, I’ve supported many children and families experiencing behavioural challenges, difficulty adjusting to change, or learning to navigate a new diagnosis.

What is the "blueprint" of your mind? Do anxiety or low mood consume your every day despite many efforts? Trauma and toxic relationships can keep us trapped in “survival mode” and are destined to leave us feeling unmet, inadequate, broken or distrustful. But what if there was a path forward? What if you could redesign a “you” who thrives without feeling chained to old pain stories? Therapy is about becoming the mapmaker of your mind and re-shaping your inner world. It's about taking back control of your life and becoming unstuck!

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
