One million Canadian men suffer from major depressive disorder each year. Three of every four completed suicides in Canada are by men. The prevalence of alcohol use disorder is twice as high in men with another mental health diagnosis than in the general population. One third of Canadian men worry that talking about mental health at work could put their job at risk. Men are just as likely as women to have mental health issues yet are far less likely to utilize traditional mental health services. Men are more likely to believe that mental health services are difficult to access, ineffective and invasive. At Cogent, Ontario’s new mental health clinic focussed solely on supporting men, we’re changing that.

◇ Sept 4 - Now accepting new clients! New program, new city, new title, new relationship - you know it's right but you're terrified anyway; you're half excited and half waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe for you it shows up as saying "we'll see how it goes" when people ask, so nobody is disappointed in you later, or rehearsing how you will introduce yourself, or working out quietly how you would undo this if you had to. Everybody else seems to have arrived already knowing how. At midnight you were googling imposter syndrome and social anxiety, then closed the tab because you already know what it says, and it hasn't helped.

My name is Alessia Cerundolo, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Q) at Measuring What Matters. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to handling things on your own. You might not have all the words yet—or even know exactly where to start—and that’s okay. I value creating a space that feels grounded, supportive, and non-judgmental. Therapy with me is not about having the “right” things to say, but about being able to show up honestly, at your own pace. I see therapy as a shared process—one where you bring your experiences, and I help guide exploration, understanding, and change.

Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, OCD, postpartum changes, or relationship stress, especially when they’ve spent years being the “strong one” at home or work. I support individuals from all backgrounds, including Black clients who want a therapist who understands identity, culture, racial stress, and the mental load they carry. I also help clients explore why they keep choosing the same type of partner or repeating painful relationship patterns. With 18+ years of experience, I offer active, honest, culturally responsive therapy that helps people gain clarity and move forward with confidence.

Healing often begins with learning to treat yourself with the same compassion you already offer everyone else. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, low self-esteem, body image concerns, perfectionism, work stress, and relationship challenges. My clients often arrive feeling disconnected from themselves, struggling to trust their own voice or feel confident in who they are. Whether you are dealing with social pressure, family dynamics, dating, or the quiet weight of self-criticism, this is a space where you can begin to reconnect with yourself.

Since 2013, I've worked with many types of clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, school refusal, friendship concerns, navigating family relationships/boundaries, people pleasing, suicidal ideation/self-harm, and gender identity, along with relationships and infidelity. My practice also includes working with polycules/consensual non-monogamy. I also often work with processing traumatic experiences across life. I enjoy co-creating successful therapeutic relationships which are trauma-informed, recognize client's lived experiences, and use an anti-colonial framework. I particularly enjoy working with long-term clients.

If you want to figure out how to work with your brain instead of against it, you might be in the right place. Maybe you look successful and put-together on the outside, but inside you're anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally numb, just getting through the day. Many of my clients are millennial professionals juggling demanding careers, complicated relationships, and the invisible weight of anxiety, emotional exhaustion, trauma, or neurodivergence.

The ways we learn to cope often make perfect sense given what we have been through. Over time, those same patterns can leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed. I work with individuals and couples navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, attachment injuries, infidelity, and the lasting effects of sexual abuse and assault. If you are caught in patterns you cannot seem to shift, or carrying something that has never felt fully safe to explore, this is a space built for exactly that work.
