Life can be so difficult to navigate when you’re struggling! When we’re not feeling our best, even the smallest tasks or interactions in life, work, parenting or relationships can feel daunting, heavy and hard. Anxiety, anger, burnout, unmanaged ADHD or OCD and low self-confidence can feel as though they’re keeping you from living the life you want to live. You know you want to feel more calm, content, comfortable and confident as you manage decisions, interactions and relationships, but you’re not sure how to get there. The good news is that you’re in the right place, taking the first step, right now.

One million Canadian men suffer from major depressive disorder each year. Three of every four completed suicides in Canada are by men. The prevalence of alcohol use disorder is twice as high in men with another mental health diagnosis than in the general population. One third of Canadian men worry that talking about mental health at work could put their job at risk. Men are just as likely as women to have mental health issues yet are far less likely to utilize traditional mental health services. Men are more likely to believe that mental health services are difficult to access, ineffective and invasive. At Cogent, Ontario’s new mental health clinic focussed solely on supporting men, we’re changing that.

Pornography addiction. Anger management. Time management. Difficulties with your relationships be it with a spouse, a child, or a parent. These are all concerns that we can tackle. There are very few Muslim male therapists out there that have both training in Western psychology and Islamic psychology.
Before being able to solve a problem, we need to first address where the problem is coming from. If you're able to do some of this before starting counselling, you'll be giving yourself a head start. Ask yourself, what am I doing right, and what can be improved.

I support children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating life transitions, emotional overwhelm, feeling disconnected from yourself, relationship challenges, and the often unseen weight many women carry.
Those I work with often describe themselves as feeling deeply, overthinking, or carrying a strong sense of responsibility for others while struggling to stay connected to their own needs. They come seeking clarity, steadiness, and a better understanding of relational or emotional patterns that feel hard to shift. In our work, I offer a collaborative, integrative approach that combines reflection, mindfulness, somatic awareness, and psychodynamic insight. This supports regulation, deeper self-understanding, and gradual, meaningful change at a pace that feels sustainable and grounded.

I don't view my clients through a lens of good or bad; rather, I see them with compassion and empathy, believing everyone has the potential to improve and contribute to society. I trust in the power of agency—that each person can create monumental change, build resiliency, and overcome adversities. Working from a holistic approach, I guide clients to feel a sense of life's preciousness, which I believe is foundational to therapeutic success; I aim to help them reconnect with their inner light and their unique potential to thrive, free from judgment. We also work to externalize their struggles, so they are no longer defined by them.

I support teens and adults in overcoming anxiety, trauma, low self-worth, depression, addiction, work-related stress, grief, and chronic pain.

Hey there! I’m Emily (she/her; I’m a Newfie at heart).
Opening up about personal struggles isn’t easy, which is why I prioritize you having a space where you feel comfortable being yourself — with no judgment, just understanding. Whether you’re dealing with addiction, an eating disorder, anxiety, or navigating life’s challenges, I want therapy to be somewhere you feel safe and supported.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
