I often pull from Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Welcoming New Clients - - It's common to feel anxious about your future, what could or "should" happen, with all those never-ending thoughts. Maybe you feel deep sadness, intense anger, you're grieving change, and/or thinking that life isn't quite working out the way you hoped. How about your relationship with yourself and others? Perhaps you're wondering if there's an opportunity to build more confidence and connection. I provide an authentic, non-judgmental space to explore what's causing you stress. Together, we will work through your concerns and create practical solutions to enhance your life.

I have special interest and experience supporting women through trauma and abuse, others with issues of self- acceptance, relationship difficulties, cross cultural adjustment and the impacts of working in aid and development, as well as issues of faith, spirituality (including religious trauma), and supporting those surviving through grief and loss.
Are you looking for a safe space to share your story and reflect on what you want for your future? Do you wish for freedom from fear, and increasing joy in your life? I have needed these very things at different times in my own life, and the courage it takes to reach out has been worth it every time. With specialized training in CBT for anxiety I work from an anti-oppressive framework, using a strengths-based, individually tailored approach to each client’s experience and interest. I love working with individuals, families and youth, and I am passionate about supporting people in their desire to grow, to heal and to create change.

Do you ever feel stuck in your life? You know forward is the way to go, but you just can’t seem to get there. You've tried. A lot of things. Yet, you just can’t seem to feel better. With your partner, you can’t seem to communicate anymore. You’ve begun to resent each other. Neither of you wants to live this way, but neither of you knows how to get out of this box you both feel stuck in. How would you like to feel like an improved version of yourself? Thriving, making progress, even flourishing?

I believe a small change in just one person doesn’t only change them, it can change relationships, family, community and future generations. Together we will determine goals, as well as identifying what achieving these goals might look like. I will strive to meet your treatment needs in the most effective and efficient way possible. My first priority when introduced to a potential new client or family is to get to know you, and to discuss your hopes in terms of working with me.

I blend evidence-based strategies (CBT, ERP, ACT) with their unique experiences to create a treatment plan that aligns with their goals.
Anxiety can leave us feeling disconnected from the things we find most important, whether it's in the form of overthinking, worrying, or feeling like we are not living up to our own expectations. Eventually, anxiety can pull us away from our family and friends, our work, and our hobbies and interests. I have always been deeply invested in helping clients identify how anxiety may be keeping them stuck and empowering them towards meaningful change.

While I use approaches like CBT, ACT, Narrative, and DBT, the most important thing is that in our sessions, you'll find a space where you can be your most authentic self.
Whether you are struggling with personal challenges such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties, navigating the complexities of racial identity, or processing your experiences of racial trauma, therapy with me involves the joint creation of a safe and empathetic space where you can freely explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences without fear of judgment. As a Black therapist with lived experience, I know first-hand the comfort derived from accessing a therapist who understands.

I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual, thus I will utilize a collaborative and eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from multiple theoretical orientations and techniques in accordance with client goals and expectations, such as CBT, DBT, ACT solution-focused, and client-centered.
When individuals experience life stressors or challenges, it can be very exhausting and their lives may seem to unravel. An important first step in the journey of recovery and self-discovery is talking about it with someone. As a Registered Psychotherapist with CRPO, I provide ethical, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care to the youth and adult population through a client-led practice, including accommodation of, and respect for differences in opinions, values, and attitudes across various cultures in a cooperative, anti-oppressive practice.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
